Description

1985 Alfa Romeo GTV6 Gran Turismo VeloceNice Driver & Rust Free GTV-6 Example
Please see all photos below as well.
You are bidding on my 1985 Alfa Romeo GTV6. Photos were taken in midday natural sunlight in February 2017 after a simple wash and vacuum (no detailing) to best show the true condition of the car.
The GTV6 is fairly rare, withonly 22k total built, about 4700 of which were imported to the US. It has a cult following and is widely considered to be a rising-value exotic, a "little-brother Ferrari" featuring Giugiaro exterior styling and a Busso motor that is one of the best sounding V6s ever built. If you are unfamiliar with the GTV6, plenty of information is available online.
There are no rust issues. This is a dry car, having spent its life inland in the western US: Modesto, CA (1985-1995), Reno, NV (1995-2007), and, under my ownership,Las Vegas, NV (2007-present).I have owned this GTV6 since late 2007.This is my second Alfa Romeo; my previous was a 1969 Berlina. I have a photocopy of a previous Nevada title that indicates 125k as "Actual Mileage" in 1995; as it is a 5-digit odometer, that indicates a rollover. The odometer has always worked under my ownership. It read 32,314 at my 2007 title inspection, andcurrently reads 45xxx, which indicates I've driven the car about 13,000 miles.I drive this Alfa on 100-mile weekend day trips to Mt. Charleston and Boulder City regularly, and have driven it to the Best of France & Italy gathering, from Las Vegas, for a 4-day, 800-mile weekend trip.It starts first-crank even after sitting for a week or three, though in 100+ degree weather it takes a few cranks as it always has for me.
I am a lifelong car enthusiast and my Alfa is what I would call a nice daily driver. Study the photos and you will see various dings, a dent to the front of the passenger door, paint crazing on the passenger front side, and various areas of fade-through. Call it patina if you like. The paint appears shinier and smoother is some places than others, though there have been no accidents under my care. Neither AutoCheck nor CarFax indicate any, and there is no evidence of any. Over my ten years of stewardship of this GTV-6, it appears to be a solid survivor. What you see is what you get, so please examine all photos carefully and feel free to arrange to see the car before bidding.
Both power mirrors work, and the power windows work but are slow, the driver's side being the slowest. The sealed factory hand crank is in the glovebox but I've never used it.From what I can see, the interior is original except the radio, which is a modern 80s-look unit that I installed; it has a front AUX input and is pre-wired for amps. I also installed new rear speakers in existing panel holes. Two dash cracks are present from the HVAC pods back to the windscreen, and the headliner is tear free but sags in the rear where the attachment "buttons" are. The speedo and tach suffer the typical "bent needle tip" syndrome. The plastic radiator pressure tank was replaced recently with NOS. I generally top off the 20/50 oil and the brake fluid after a few spirited weekend drives. Fans know that GTV6 circuit-board taillights are quirky and problematic; that mostly means my passenger side rear turn signal usually doesn't work, sometimes does. For what it's worth, I'll include an extra used circuit board for this side. The factory AC works well; it actually froze us out on the drive to Woodley Park, though I last had it serviced in 2013 so it could likely stand an evacuation and charge.
Typical of old Alfas, a gentle right hand means the 1-2-3-4-5-4-3 shifts are smooth and easy and the 3-2 less so, but can be done carefully without grind. This is a late-1985 model, so the factory gearshift linkage "improvements" are present, but it ain't no Miata. The 15" Michelin tires are almost new and filled with nitrogen; the OEM metric wheels are yours if you want them and can get them out of my garage the same day as the car. Otherwise, they will be sold separately. Overall, my GTV6 is a fun, balanced, torque-happy and head turning driver that I greatly enjoy.
This Alfa must pass a tailpipe sniffer emissions test annually in Clark County, NV. It most recently passed this test in September 2016. I have all receipts from my ownership as well as repair and maintenance receipts dating back to 12/1987. These include work done at Kruse-Lucas Imports (Modesto), Kansas Avenue Imported Car Service (Modesto), Barber's Alfa Romeo & Ferrari Shop (Sacramento) and Italy Service (Las Vegas), the latter of which includes a few notables:
09/13/2011: catalytic converters replaced09/23/2010: radiator flushed, brake master cylinder replaced, rear brake pads replaced03/25/2010: clutch master & slave cylinder replaced03/24/2008: timing belt replacement
I also have a letter on the Stanislaus County Sheriff's Department (Modesto) that indicates this Alfa Romeo was used for surveillance and plain clothes officer work from new until it was sold into private ownership, hence the dark window tint.
The question always arises with classics: Can I drive it home? As a classic car guy with a cell phone and AAA, I certainly would. It stranded me once -- 5 miles from home -- due to a failed throttle position sensor. No biggie.
Please see my feedback; you will see I have bought and sold many special-interest vehicles via eBay for my own personal enjoyment. I do not tolerate auction interference. I do not end my auctions early. I do not have this vehicle for sale in any other venue while the eBay auction is underway. I do not reveal my reserves.
Clean and clear Nevada title in hand. This vehicle must be picked up, and payment made in full, within one week of auction end date. Ask any and all questions before bidding. This is a 32 year old Italian exotic, after all!
