I met a man to buy this car. I was buzzed, it was sundown. I had bicycled over. We chatted and chatted till dark at which point he maniacally began to try and start the alfa. He was a large man, imposing. He was crammed intothe car with his head bent under the headliner, his face in a grimace. With one hand he operated a toggle, in the same giant hand he held alever. With his free hand he pulled and pushed and pulled again, nothing. From the size of the man I had decided to sit in the back seat. I observed. Over and over he did this same operation, get the engine turning, position the lever, grimace, then madly work the lever back and forth andback and forth. Crazy. I excused myself for a nature break on the side of the house and the giant got it fired up with the starter.VROOM, thegiant was satisfied and so was I. We tradedpapers and I hightailed it way late into the evening.The man absolutely worshipped this car. He had raced from the airport to an obscure town in the north woods in an obscenely fast time. We met again. He unloaded spare part after spare part into my vehicle. He told the stories again and the obsession was real. He had wiring diagrams and so much stuff it was truly alifetimesupply.
