1988 Alfa Romeo Spider Graduate Convertible Collector Restoration
Description
1988 Alfa Romeo Spider Graduate
Not running. See below.Unknown mileage (original dash had about 130k, I added another 30k without it working) (original dash is included)
5 Speed - 2000cc - Injection - USA model (Graduate) (Veloce was the Italian model, and Quad was British)
THIS IS A PROJECT VEHICLEBody has some dents, dings, minor rust spots. No major rush issues.Electrical could use a full overhaul. It has been replaced once but has some quirks (must turn headlights on to complete ignition circuit). The previous owner included a harness (used) that I will gladly include in the trunk (this one does not have a new fuse box and I wasn't sure how to go about using it). (not all sensor report correctly with relays, bulbs, fuel gauge, temp gauge...)I used this car my last year of college and first two years of marriage. One day I parked it to run in a store and it never worked since.I have replaced alternator. Clutch slave cylinder. Rebuilt submergeable fuel pump and primary fuel filter and pump, and cleaned out injectors individually (and fuel rail). Replaced some of the air hoses. Resurfaced the inner fuel tank with POR (paint over rust). I replaced the convertible top (not professionally, it works but missing a few details). It does leak some oil somewhere and splashes over time under the hood. I don't think it burns oil, but not positive.Tail part of muffler rusted off.
My last diagnosis and attempt to repair allowed the following:- Engine would turn over great.- When revving up the rpm, it would stall out.- If you revved up very quickly, you could get it into the high rpm.
Low (<1000) and high (>3500) rpm worked, no middle. I tried cleaning out what I could. I think the problem is somewhere between the AFM (air flow meter) and the ECU (computer). The Bosch L-jetronic Fuel Injection system is notorious for this type of trouble shooting. Im just young and don't have the time or money to invest.
I will include the Alfa Romeo Body Shop Manual ($50 value), as well as the wiring schematics I received from a gentlemen in the Alfa Romeo BB forums.
