Description

I bought this 1991 Alfa Romeo 164 last year as a non driver...it needed strut work. The engine ran so I put it on my hauler and brought it home. I replaced the 2 struts that were bad and gave it an oil change. While waiting on the struts I fixed a few things on the car. I got all the power seats and power windows working again but the power locks dont work and I didnt look into what was wrong with them. The blower for the air works but Im going to guess the AC doesnt work...Ive not tried it but at a minimun it probably needs a charge...again I have no idea good or bad on the AC, the blower motor works thats all I know for sure. Overall the car looks good. the paint is shiney everywhere but the roof...typical clear coat peeling on this one...easy to repaint and fix...also has a sun roof...I opened and closed it one time...seemed to work OK but Id clean and grease the tracks if I was going to keep it. It has a few dents: 3 in the hood, 2 in the passenger door and 1 on the passenger rear 1/4. The rear wheel arches have rust where the rear doors close on top of them. You can see all this in the pics. The interior overall isnt bad but the seams need resewn on both front seats. The PO cut out some of the inside of the glove box...my guess is to replace stepper motors but thats a guess. I see manual cables hooked to the flaps so not sure if he ever had it working. The car is a driver...well maybe LOL and heres why I say that...
After replacing the struts I took it out for a test drive. It did fine...initially. When I started it, it showed good oil pressure everything seemed normal. I drove it to a local store about 10 minutes away...no issues...seemed fine....THEN the dash lit up...CEL light came on...oil pressure warning light came on...oil pressure gauge dropped to pretty much zero...I was freaking out a bit but the engine made no noise and seemed to run OK. It didnt sound like an engine with no oil pressure. I was close to home so drove it back and listened to the engine...seemed fine but the gauges and idiot lights said no oil pressure. I got online and there's lots about how when these cars get warmed up the gauges and idiots lights are worthless. The next day I started it...60PSI on the gauge cold...so Im tending to think all the oil senders need looked at...and cleaned or replaced.
The rear muffler is off but I have one to put on it and will include it. The front passenger outside door handle is broken...I have a new one of those also that goes with the car. It has the factory spare tire the factory jack and a pretty complete factory tool kit. It has a CD changer but I have not tested it...looks like it should work though. It is missing the passenger side turn signal lens and the driver side headight washer on the bumper. The tires hold air but should be replaced due to age.
I am selling the car as is. It has the potential to be a good driver i think or the engine alone is worth the opening bid if you need one. I have no idea when the timing belt was done last. The PO did put new brakes on the car incuding the rubber hoses. He also had a new fuel pump installed. Would also make for good parts car as it looks to be complete and all there. It starts and can be driven but it should be trailered until you get the bugs looked into.
I have tried to give an accurate discription of the car but Ive not delved into it very far...if it doesnt sell I'll eventually dig into it deeper and sell it more sorted for more money but it's' going to take me awhile to get to it so i'd rather sell it than let it sit . I have a number of other projects going on right now and although I love Alfas Im not a real fan of the 164. I have a 79 that I absolutely love but it has dual carbs, nothing electric LOL hand crank windows and wing vents ect an old school car which is what I prefer. If you know the 164, the oil sensor thing is a common problem...but based on how the engine sounds Im pretty sure it has oil pressure but I make no guarantees on anything...again sold as is. Ask question before bidding and look at all the pics. Please note due to Ebay not liking the actual vin i had to list it as a 1980 to get it to take the ad. The car IS a 1991 VIN: ZAREA43LSM6185686
