Description

Rare Berlina model.
I bought this vehicle in 1978 from the original owner with about 25,000 miles and drove it until 1996. During this time it was garaged about 50% of the time. From 1996 to 2009 it was stored outside under a tarp with Dri-Z-Air (that is a desiccant - absorbs moisture from the air) inside, since 2009 it has been garaged.
In 1995 I installed an engine from a 1979 Spider with about 19,000 miles on it and then drove about 10,000 miles more.
The original motor comes with the vehicle. It was replaced when the head cracked when I did not have have enough anti-freeze during a cold spell while I was dealing with a radiator leak due to the fan blade that broke. The original motor is setting on a wooden stand with wheels.
Between 1996 and 2003 I would start it every month or so and run for a few minutes to warm it up. From 2003 to 2018 I did not start it. In 2018 I changed the oil and filter and put in fresh gas; it starts and runs.
The vehicle moves under its own power; however, the brakes are dragging.
The differential whines. During a trip years ago one of the axle tubes loosened from the 'pumpkin' letting the oil out. Unfortunately I did not realize this until it was too late. I suspect that the ring and pinion gears need replacing.
The tires are from about 1980, they hold air well enough to load, transport on a trailer for a few weeks, and unload. I'll make sure they are filled to the maximum allowed pressure when the vehicle leaves; the spare also.
The hood release is loose and does not unlatch the hood, so please be careful not to close the hood before addressing. It can be unlatched from underneath the car, but that is very difficult!
As with any vehicle - It would be prudent to thoroughly check everything on this vehicle before taking it on the road.
There is rust and 'rot' on the trunk lid and rockers/doors. The passenger front rocker and door is the best condition. The driver rear rocker and door is in the worst. Elsewhere there is rusting also - see pictures.
The vehicle was in a collision in the early 80's that damaged the front end. After repairs, the vehicle drove fine.
The original owner had a sunroof installed, different radio and performance Alfa Romeo camshafts in the original motor. I installed the Sev Marchal driving lights, and a trailer hitch to pull an 11' boat.
The Cibie quartz halogen headlights are installed with the plastic protector bubbles.
There are miscellaneous parts in the trunk. These parts are from the engine swap, along with the original camshafts that came with the original motor. The two chrome pieces that cover the edge of the carpet in the doorways are not pictured, but are included. There are various badges included also.
I had been saving this to be a project in my retirement, however, I'm just too busy with other priorities. So it's time for this classic 1974 Alfa Romeo Berlina to go to a loving home! Hope you enjoy it as much as i did!
