Description

1968 ALFA ROMEO DUETTO 1600 SPIDER: --Red with Black interior, Black carpeting and Black convertible top, Restored, 1750cc inline 4-cylinder engine, 5-speed manual transmission, Exceptional throughout, Long-term ownership. The beautiful Duetto bodywork was penned at Pininfarina and the last project that the company’s founder, Battista “Pinin” Farina had a personal hand in. The design is characterized by minimal chrome, distinctly sculptured body sides and that signature tapering, rounded tail. This is the original expression of the long-running Alfa Spider and is considered by many to be the purest and most desirable of all models in the 27-year production run. The model achieved worldwide public recognition after starring alongside Dustin Hoffman in the film, The Graduate. Testing a Duetto in 1967, the UK’s Motor magazine noted “the individuality of the car, the sheer fun of driving it and the fact that it does certain things better than other sports cars.” The Duetto was built on a strong unibody platform and came standard with disc brakes, smooth shifting 5-speed manual transmission and a 1600cc version of the famous Alfa twin cam engine with dual side draught weber carburetors. Restored in the early 2000s, this Duetto still shows the quality of the workmanship-restoration to date. The panel fit and bright work is excellent throughout. During the restoration, the Duetto was fitted with a 155hp, 1750cc engine built by Norman Racing with hot cams and the gearbox was rebuilt by Dave Vegher. Other items fitted during the restoration included new headlamp covers (originals are included), a Nardi wood steering wheel, Koni shocks, adjustable control arms and Coco Mats. The engine and gearbox are excellent and smooth with great power during acceleration and the typical throaty Alfa exhaust note. This Duetto is a superb example throughout, certain to satisfy both the Alfa enthusiast and those seeking a 1960’s sports car experience. The Duetto is considered among the finest driver’s cars of all time, known for their lively handling and spritely revving twin-cam engines. A truly iconic sports car, this Alfa is comfortable, yet dialed in for around-town cruising. This Alfa has been well-maintained in its previous ownership regardless of use. A recent road test attests to the car performing flawlessly in every way and it is ready for immediate use and enjoyment.
