Description
Please note that experience shows us that the photobucket of over 100 large pixel pictures posted here are in most cases best viewed and downloaded using the very latest and most updated version of the 'Firefox' browser as some other browsers and especially older browser versions are not capable of accommodating the size of the download. Over the years our clients have overwhelmingly been appreciative of our many unaltered large pixel photos posted in our ads and our feedback has been that it is very rare that a dealer will post all but the most flattering of professionally finished photographs. We prefer to post the many photos taken of the car, in sometimes unflattering but natural sunlight, in order for our prospective buyers to be able to see true and reliable images of the car advertised and that is the reason for some seemingly duplicated shots. We trust you will agree.
West Coast Classics are proud to present an absolutely exceptional example of this all original surviving apart from one repaint 1970 AMC Javelin SST 2 door Hardtop Coupe with the rare & highly desirable 'X' code factory optional 'Go Package' with the 390CID 315HP 4 BBL V8 engine matched to a 4 speed transmission with a 'Hurst' shifter and which has been repainted in its original 'Glen Green Metallic' (Color Code 87A) color with correct factory SST decals and with the 'C' stripes along the length of the mid-body of the car with an all original black leather interior (Trim Code 61L) and fully loaded with original factory options including Power Steering, Power Brakes, Wood Grain Sports Steering Wheel & door panel trim, bucket seats, rocker panel moldings, Ram Air hood scoop moldings, AM Radio and Rear Roof Spoiler. 1 of only 1,632 1970 390 V8 4 speed cars!
In 1968 the AMC Javelin was an all new creation designed to compete with the Mustang and Camaro and unlike the Marlin which had preceded it, the Javelin showed no visible link to any other AMC product. It was a beautifully designed and under-rated competitor with a sculpted design and which even with the standard six cyinder engine could cruise effortlessly at 70mph and with one of the optional V8's it was capable of much higher cruising speeds with a top end of over 110mph! The top of the line SST model boasted standard equipment of sporty reclining bucket seats, wood grain sports steering wheel and door panel trim, rocker panel moldings, wheel covers and hood scoop moldings. Today we feel these models are a bargain compared to their contemporaries, the Mustang's and Camaro's. The Javelin was a very modern looking car, even by today's standards, and it was quite unlike any car of its day.
Also introduced in the spring of 1969 were the 'Big Bad SST Javelins' with the all new 'C' stripes that started behind the front wheel opening and ran back along the full length of the mid body of the car. These particular cars came in 'Big Bad Orange', 'Big Bad Blue' or 'Big Bad Green'. These cars also boasts the added 'Big Bad' options of mag-style wheels, an 8 track stereo tape with AM radio, power disc brakes, a 140mph speedo with a big faced tachometer, Twin Grip Differential, roof mounted spoiler and the close ratio 4 speed with Hurst shifter! This particular example has the same options with the corresponding special trim and added chrome and it was purchased with the highly desirable optional 'Go Package' which included the all new 390 CID/315HP 4 BBL V8 engine linked to an also factory added option of a 4 speed close ratio Borg-Warner transmission with a 'Hurst Competition Plus' floor shifter, dual exhausts, heavy duty suspension with a larger diameter sway bar and heavy duty springs and shocks, Twin Grip differential, Traction Bars, Quick Ratio Power Steering, a pair of overlay fiberglass Ram Air hood scoops, a specially designed air cleaner for better breathing, 'C' Stripes and the very necessary power front disc brakes and 5 1/2" wide Mag style wheels with wide wheel rims and tires!
While the Pontiac GTO was selected as the 'Motor Trend' Car of the Year in 1968, the magazine offered category awards also and picked the Javelin as the winner in the 'Sports Personal' category saying it exemplified the most significant achievement for an all new car and is the most notable entry of its class!"
This particular car would seem to have been always garaged with no sun damage and no known history of any accidents! This car must be seen to be appreciated - boasting the 390/315HP 4BBL V8 engine which runs like a Swiss watch, the 4 speed manual transmission shifts which smoothly through the gears and the engine temperature always remaining cool. The car still retains its original leather interior showing some minimal patina for its age which we have chosen to leave as is as a testament to the cars overall originality! The car is reported to have 74K original miles.
This is a obviously a very rare find and a stunning example of a 1970 AMC Javelin SST 2 Door Hardtop Coupe with the highly desirable 390/315HP V8 'Go Package' matched to the 4 speed manual transmission with the Hurst shifter and which is one very fun daily appreciating, daily driving and daily head-turning all time classic American car with it's original specifications 100% intact! Perfect unique and rare classic car to be used as a daily driver for any serious American muscle car enthusiast or simply a great looking late sixties all American classic muscle car for anyone!
