1957 Austin A 35
Description
British car fans, you probably haven't seen one of these in a long time. It is an Austin A35, now quite rare in this country but it has a big enthusiast following across the pond. You can find them on YouTube and check out the British club site, the Austin A30 and A35 Owners Club.
This Austin has had considerable mechanical work done including a rebuilt 1098cc engine (out of a Morris Minor), a dual SU carb setup, rebuilt four speed transmission, brakes, exhaust system, all new wiring to original specifications. gas tank restored by Gas Tank Renu, five new Firestone tires and new hub caps, powder coated wheels and more. All mechanical work was carried out by British Motor Company of Eugene, Oregon. I have receipts. The interior is mostly original but the front seats and door panels have been redone.
My intention was to have the interior restored and then repaint in the original black but after more than two years in the resto shop I've kind of run out of time, money and am gradually reducing my small collection of seven cars. I can guarantee that this little gem will draw attention - even in its present condition - at car shows and parking lots. It gets more attention than any Corvette. The ladies think it's "So Cute!" I'm picturing it next to my Jeep so you can get an idea of the size. It's about a foot longer than my vintage Jeep and about 10 in. narrower.
Mr. Austin is presently not running. I suspect the carbs have gummed up from sitting too long. Brakes need additional work as well. So I would say this is still a project but all original components are there, except the wipers which went missing while the car was in the shop.
All electrical components are working except the aforementioned wipers. The mechanic said the wiper motor needs replacing as well. The speedometer is inoperative but I found a nice one on eBay UK which goes with the car. The body is very straight and has surface rust only in the trunk. I can see no evidence that the car was ever in an accident. All panels look to be original. Note how solid the underside is.
I have tried to represent my Austin honestly, pointing out the boo-boos as well as the good stuff. This vehicle is 61 years old so it is being sold "as is" with no guarantees or warranties expressed or implied. E-mail me with any questions by clicking the "Contact seller" line on the upper right side of the page.
I have a very reasonable reserve on this vehicle which takes into consideration that there is still more work to do. So please bid like you're going to own it. Successful bidder is expected to follow through on the purchase and remove the car within 30 days. I will not accept any bids from any bidder with zero feedbacks unless such person contacts me with their address and phone number before bidding. I reserve the right to cancel any bids from someone with an unfavorable feedback rating.
Successful bidder to pay $500 non-refundable deposit via PayPal within 48 hours of purchase. Balance is to be paid by cash, postal money order, bank cashiers check or bank-to-bank money transfer (preferred) within seven days of purchase. If paying by bank cashiers check I will retain title and vehicle until check clears both buyer's bank and my bank. This could take two weeks or more. I am adding these conditions because of previous experience.
