This 1969 Austin America has 44k miles and was recovered from long term storage in Illinois three years ago. The car was parked when the owner fell in love with a younger sports car. This is a really fun car that gets a lot of attention and makes people smile often.
The 1275cc inline-four is paired to an automatic transmission. The car shifts smoothly with the manual selector or in automatic.
Sitting idle over time resulted in the failure of the hydrolastic suspension, which has since been repaired. It now sits level on its original hydrolastic suspension. This car was sold new in Peoria IL. and at some point was rust proofed by Ziebart and repainted red. I believe that I am the third owner. In order to get the car back on the road the carburetor was rebuilt and motor was tuned up. The gas tank was removed, resealed, and re-installed with new lines and filters. After the resealing the gas gauge no longer works, so I just make sure to keep gas in it. Has newer battery, new radiator cap, fan belt, oil pressure switch.
The interior is mostly unmodified, and retains its original 2-spoke steering wheel. The dashboard has been recovered by an auto upholsterer. The instruments and interior lighting function correctly, however the plastic interior light cover is missing. There are tears on the passenger seat and the rear seat back. The tears have been covered with black duct tape to prevent further tearing. The carpet is in need of replacement. The floor pans will probably need some small patch work done. The trunk retains the original spare fitted under the floor, however it does not hold air and either requires repair or replacement.
Please adjust your expectation level to that of a 49+ year old car that has some cosmetic and mechanical needs. I have driven this car locally to neighboring towns on clear days only. Given its age I do not recommend trying to drive across states with this vehicle. Vehicle is pick up only, bring a trailer. Buyer is responsible for picking up vehicle. The car comes with records, repair manual, spare parts, hydrolastic pump, and a clean Illinois title.
I will answer any questions about the car to the best of my ability. Thanks for looking and good luck bidding.
