Description
This 1961 Austin Gipsy is ashort-wheelbase 4×4 model with left-hand drive which is finished in green with a removable white fiberglass top. Power is from a naturally-aspirated 2178cc diesel four paired with a 4-speed manual transmission and a dual-range transfer case, and additional features include black steel wheels and rear troop seating. An oil change was recently performed and the truck is offered by the selling dealer with a period handbook, a sales brochure, and a clean Utah title.Approximately 21,000 examples of the Gipsy were produced between 1958 and 1968, with early models such as this example only available on a 90″ wheelbase. Rust repairs performed by the previous owner were new metal panels welded in below the doors on both the driver and passenger side. Some paint corrections were also performed on the front bumper.The Gipsy is equipped with the naturally-aspirated 2178cc diesel four which was shared by Austin-built London taxis from 1948-1981 and originally ratedat 55 horsepower with 89 lb-ft of torque.The chassis features independent flexible rubber torsion spring suspension at all four corners. Stock gear ratios were4.05:1 to 1:1 for the 4-speed transmission, 2.02:1 and 1:1 for the twin-stick transfer case, and 5.125:1 for the differentials.With an incredibly rare hard top, this is an extremely well sorted Gipsy that will deliver years of fun either in town or on the farm.
