Description

Contents of Auction: This auction is for the following:

1)A vintage automobile, a 1989 BMW 635 csi coupe (e24) with 136,821 miles on it;

2)Two car covers;

3)A second set of tires for the car (there are winter and summer tires ); and

4)Theelegant cut-crystal model of this car that my father kept on his desk at work.

Provenance: This car was bought new in 1989 in Newport Beach, California. My father purchased it from the original owner in the mid-1990s, and he never considered selling it. He has just passed on, and while I would like to keep this car, our young-adult sons still live at home. This car is a collector’s dream, and needs to go to a home where it will be properly appreciated. (Our sons should not drive this car for a variety of reasons; they are better off with our aged Honda Pilot.) I currently have clear title to the car. So, there have been only three owners: the Newport Beach purchaser, my father until he died, and me.

Appearance: Beautiful. Please look at the pictures and see for yourself. This car received an award at a BMW Car Club gathering for 6-series cars in Michigan in a few years ago, and has been minimally driven since that time. The paint is smooth and well-waxed, and there are no dings. There are a very few spots where the touch-up paint has been applied, but they are not easily found. There are a couple of places where the black plastic trim is a bit gouged. I have photographed one such place.

The upholstery has no tears or cracks, and the black leather is dark and unbleached. The seats have some of the typical wrinkles that older leather shows, but they look, feel and smell good. The dash is crack-free and fully functional. The tool box is secure under the lid of the trunk. A non-smoking car, there are no odors.

This car reflects the love and care that my father bestowed upon it; he enjoyed waxing it by hand, and he conditioned the leather at least twice a year. It was his dream car, and he was very proud of it.

Mechanics: Excellent. This carwas always serviced at a BMW agency, and we have all the service records. Please note: this car is NOT an automatic, this is a manual-transmission vehicle, which I understand is preferred for this model.

The clutch engages smoothly, with no slipping or noise or abnormal vibrations. The engine is sound and hearty. The brakes work evenly and securely. The power windows go up and down. The sunroof retracts smoothly, without any alignment problems. The radio is original, the speakers all work, and the cassette deck plays cassettes. The power seat controls all operate well. The refrigerator gets things cold. The heater and AC work just as they always have. Theglove-boxhas the factory-supplied flashlight in place.

There is also a phone in this car. I do not know if it can be made to work with the modern systems. But it looks good, in its holster to the right of the dash, and the buttons light up.

An e24 in this condition is a rare thing.

For your peace of mind (and mine, too) I have just had our local BMW agency perform an oil change (which includes a new filter) and conduct a multi-point inspection of the car. It passed in all respects, with no problems. This car is road-ready.

Please Note: It was only after I took most of the pictures that I realized I had not closed the driver's door, and had not latched the hood. Rest assured-- they do close well. The last picture was taken at the dealership, where it was just serviced, showing the door and hood nicely closed.

Payment and Pick up: If you win this auction, you will need to make a deposit of $500 within 24 hours. Further, you will need to make arrangements to complete payment and pick up the car (or have your shipper do so) within one week of the end of the auction. The car will be kept in a locked garaged during that time. Payment in full will be expected before pick up. You may pay via Cashier's Check, or I will accept cash, or you may pay via Paypal, if that is preferable to you.

For information purposes, this car is located about two hours south of Chicago. You can have a mechanic check it out, or I can put you in touch with our local dealership, which has serviced the car for over ten years.
