1971 BMW 2002 with Sunroof
Description
You are looking at a nice example of a 1971 BMW 2002 with optional sunroof. In 1986 the car received a new coat of paint, all new exterior trim, custom carpet, headliner, rear seat upholstery and new Flofit seats. All major drivetrain components were replaced: New BMW remanufactured Tii motor, Schrick 292 cam, dual valve springs, dual side draft Weber 40 DCOE carburetors with Korman stage II jetting, Stahl long tube header, Bosch 002 distributor, new 5-speedtransmissionconversion and new limited-slip differential. Suspension and brakes were also upgraded with BMW e12 front calipers and vented rotors, stainless steel brake lines, 2002 tii wheel cylinders, Korman sway bars and springs, Bilstein H.D. shocks and struts.Regular oil changes with Mobil I synthetic oil and Redline oils were used in both the differential and transmission.
In 2014 the car was repainted and necessary body work performed. Rusted areas were cut out and repaired with replacement panels (rockers, wheel arches, rt. front fender, shock tower box). Eastwood Internal Frame Coating was sprayed in channels and boxed or hidden spaces including door and hood seams as a rust preventative. Also installed were new front and rear window rubber, a new windshield, new trunk rubber, new front calipers and pads, new rear wheel cylinders, new center tie rod, new door panel cards (2002 AD), new battery, new 320i alternator, new Bosch blue coil, new, custom trunk panels, new Italian RAID steering wheel, the radiator tanked and rodded, good used Bosal muffler and resonator were installed. There is no radio but a set of Infinity Kappa speakers (tweeters, mid-range and woofers), crossovers are included. The included VDO gauge panel needs to be rewired. Included are oil pressure and temperature sensors. All gauges and the VDO 2002 Tii clock are in good working order
The car runs and handles beautifully and is a joy to drive. The engine does not smoke and has plenty of power. The transmission shifts smoothly.
The Weber carburetorscould use some fine tuning, as the idle is a little rough. There are minor leaks from the water pump gasket and the transmission gear selector shaft seal. The steering box shows some wear as it has about 300k miles. A spare is included with the car. The original three piece dash has several cracks. A spare one piece, crack free dash from a later 2002 is included. It needs some cleaning up but is in very good condition. The headliner is nice but mildly stained. Both front and rear bumpers each have a single minor dent a little larger than a golf ball. I have been told they are easily repairable. The exterior trim (replaced in 1986) shows minor scratches and a few dents. The front seats could use some foam and fabric repair but are extremely comfortable. the Bottle cap wheels are straight but the paint has lost some of its shine.Extensive records since new accompany the car.
The car is sold with no warranty and in AS-IS condition. A non-refundable $1,000 deposit is to bepaid within 24 hours of winning bid via PayPal. I have done my best to accurately describe it's condition but it is impossible to discuss every detail both pro and con. It is a 47 year old vehicle and shows its age in spite of the extensive care it has received. It is, however a very nice example of highly desirable classic. I welcome third party mechanics to inspect the carduring the run of the auction.
