1974 BMW Bavaria
Description
Precursor to the BMW 530, the Bavaria was the Every Man's version of the upscale BMW 3.0 SL of the early 1970's. I bought it new in 1974 and it has graced my digs in various states of repair or disrepair since that time. About 1980 or so I was bitten by the Morespeedicus Torqueiferus bug which festered into a delirium of doing modifications to the engine. Higher compression, High lift longer duration cam, at one point triple Weber side drafts (Great, but oh those emission tests) then to make Big Brother happy dual Weber 2 barrel downdrafts. I remember annoying the boy racers in their 5 liter Mustangs when they couldn't gain any distance on me in the occasional impromptu drag race. This beast had so much torque that it separated the ring gear from the differential after one too many gear shift fiendings from 1st to 2nd at 6K plus r.p.m.'s. That necessitated my purchase of a factory rebuilt differential. Said implement set me back some 9 big ones in the early 90's and prompted the parts man to snicker " you can't break one of these". Only about 1,500 miles on that. Shortly after the driveshaft started to go wobbly......so, yeah I bought a new one. Never installed it though because I had finally achieved total remission from the MT bug......well maybe not quite total because I get real itchy and bumpy when I go to Lime Rock......and oh yeah I've got a 160 hp 1969 BMW 1600 Ti project car in the basement and a 2003 Audi TT Quattro that gets me about now. Well, sob...guess there's no real cure.So that's it in a coconut shell. You know confession IS really great! So part it out or sort it out. I would, if time permitted. When you get to my age you have to choose carefully what projects you are going to tackle.PLEASE READ THIS DISCLAIMER.....FREE LOCAL PICKUP ONLY......JERR-DAN RECOMMENDED. WILL NOT SHIP!
