BMW: 5-series 528e 1988 (E28)
Description
This is a 1988 528e, it's the last year of the e28 styling. It has a 2.7 liter straight 6 and automatic transmission.
I have overhauled the suspension, replaced the top hats, added H&R sport springs (~1.5" drop from stock), installed a new driveshaft, adjusted the valves, and fixed just about everything mechanical that needed attention. The body is pretty straight despite the usual rust at the rear bumper mounts. The interior is black on black and it has the stock bottle cap wheels. Aside from the spring upgrades, I've done my best to return this car to near stock condition.
For the last year I've been daily commuting it 50 miles round trip. It drives fine, it's a great daily.
The Good- All gauges in the instrument cluster work- Gas mileage ranges from 21-25 highway- All four tires are 16 months old- New H&R sport springs/top hats- New rear brake rotors and pads- New front brake pads- New drive shaft- 3.46 limited slip differential- Regular 3,000 mile 20W-50 oil changes
The Bad- Rust at the rear bumper mounts- Both bumpers are off the car, but included with the sale- No radio- No AC
The bumpers were off when I purchased the car and I have not attempted to install them. The front bumper should reattach without issue as all of the mounts are in great shape. The rear bumper mounts would prevent reattachment. The left rear mount in particular would need to be repaired for a proper and safe connection.
Even after repairing the mount, I think it would be wise to replace the bumper shocks as they're all original and useless at this point.
