Selling my ‘88 BMW M5. This is a rust free survivor that is a great driver with lower miles. The E28 M5 was only produced for one model year in the USA - 1988. All of them are black (Schwarz). This one has the Tan/Natur interior. Car fires right up with no hesitation and drives extremely tight - I own a few vehicles and do my best to work this one into the rotation - usually driving it 3-4 times a week (I have a small commute) when the weather permits. The S38 I-6 doesn’t miss a beat even 30+ years later. With the high heat temps we had this summer, the car was great at staying cool - no temperature spikes. The 5-speed shifts nice with no grinding.
Paint is in nice condition for the age. There are chips to be noted but overall shows very well for the age. Has original BMW glass all around. No cracks. Windows are tinted (previous owner did this and I haven’t had the chance to remove - to each their own).
Original bumpers are fully intact with no modifications to the shocks. Car is always ready to be shown and be driven.
Important Notes:
*107,101 Miles (as of 11/24/19 - May go up slowly as I routinely drive it)
*Partial Service Records/Invoices
*Last Valve Adjustment Done @ 99,832 miles on 7/30/2013
*Compression checked about a year/1000 miles ago. Very healthy numbers - I do have a copy of this record as well.
*All Original Panels with VIN Tags intact (Hood, Fenders, Doors, Trunk) - Photos of all VIN tags are in the Google photos album I linked.
*Original Toolkit with Original Spare/Tire
*The interior smell is classic Bimmer aroma.
*Rear SLS Removed - Has Dinan Springs and Bilstein Shocks and rides extremely nice.
*OEM BBS RC090 17-inch “Style 5” Wheels with 225/45/17 Tires
*Dinan ECU Chip (OEM Chip Included)
*Aftermarket Radio w/ Amp/Sub (Comes with Stock Head Unit and Speakers) - It’s a clean install that can be reverted back with little work.
*Underside is very clean. I recently did a cleaning on it myself.
*Aftermarket Billy Boat Exhaust - Stock manifolds/catalytic converter intact.
*All power functions work great - locks, windows, radio/power antenna, all seat functions (even the heated seats!).
In the last few months I've overhauled suspension, fixed a fuel gauge issue, new wipers, misc trim pieces, routine service (oil/filter), replaced misc bulb, new belts.
Things to be aware of - This is a 32 year old BMW. It is in no way being represented as a PERFECT car. I do my best to itemize anything I’ve noticed with the ownership of this car.
*AC Compressor has a small Freon leak - AC still blows cold.
*Shifter bushings are worn and could use a replacement
*Front driver seat would benefit from a recover or restore.
*Coolant temp gauge needs a tap on the cluster to come alive when vehicle is started.
*Minor exhaust rattle at idle (heat shield weld on the cat has broken - very common issue)
*Tires have flat spots
Overall, it is a great driver and I never hesitate to jump in it and take it to work or run errands.
I will be including a new OEM "M5" rear badge as well as new OEM M-Technic badges for the front seats.
