1988 BMW 535is, clear CA title in hand, smogged, great runner
Description
This is a 1988 BMW 535is, the sports version of the 5 series with "the big 6" 3.5L engine. It is in wonderful running condition. Body and paint, interior are in original condition with marked clouding and oxidation of the clear coat on the upper surfaces (hood, roof and trunk), some dents and scratches on the driver's door. Interior well preserved with cracks on the dashboard and some wear on the seats (I have a nearly perfect dashboard that I will include with the car). It has minor corrosion in the jack mounting area (see pictures) but no significant rust. It is titled, registered and insured in my name with clear CA title in hand. I purchased it about 1.5 years ago for approx $4700 and spent several thousands getting it running well and safe but I did not keep receipts. New brakes, idle control valve, spark plugs, coolant hoses, all four wheel hubs with ABS rings, battery, rear trunk seal, intake hoses and smog components, steering component, etc, etc. Starts easily and runs very well. It was just smogged and passed on first attempt with no repairs needed. I do not think there are any major accidents or repaints on the car and as far as I can tell paint is original. Car can be driven off as is although if you choose to drive cross-country it is at your own risk. Tires, breaks, cooling, engine, transmission and clutch, drivetrain and suspension work fine. There is a slight noise when braking which started after wheel hubs were replaced but I did not look into it. It may be because the brakes and wheel hubs are new but I am not sure. Brakes work fine. It has period-correct E28 BMW M5 wheels which match perfectly (I do not have original wheels). It is also missing the rear trunk spoiler, radio and rear speakers. It is otherwise all original except for the shift knob which was replaced with a new leather knob. It has all AC components in place but AC not cold and I have not looked into it. Fan and heat work, odometer, speedometer, all work. Some of the windows do not move or move slow, I believe the switches are worn. Do expect some wear and tear, dents, scratches and what's expected for such an old classic. I've cleaned the car but have not detailed it. I spent over $8000 so far on car, repairs, wheels, etc but did not keep receipts. Spent $1000 alone on the M5 wheels and tires which are in excellent condition. Please do not expect a new car but a well-loved, pampered classic. I kept it garaged for the past year as I do not know if the sunroof is waterproof and I did not want to take any chances.Selling to finance a truck, I am open to reasonable offers and I give priority to local buyers with cash in hand for a quick sale. If you are far away and want a deal, I expect prompt payment (e.g. cash in person or cashier's check in hand or via Express overnight mail, I will not hold the car and wait for payment for weeks, etc. No personal checks or any jokes, scams, etc. Please email early if interested, have questions, etc; please do not place bid first then ask all questions, a bid is a firm commitment and obligation and not a hold on the car to give you time to find out if you really want it....I may end auction early and remove listing under certain circumstances. Car is sold as is, where it is with no implied or expressed warranty.Thank you for your interest,
