NOW MORE details about this Electra 225...
Body and Paint; This Buick Electra 225 was purchased in California in 1959 and was built at the South Gate, California Buick Plant. It Spent it's early life inbeautiful sunny southern Californiaand then went to the Dry New Mexico area to spend it's last years driving the desert area of Albuquerque, then away into storage since 1979! The old guy that owned the car had always said some day I will restore this one but it never happened...years went buy and the car was in and out of storage getting the HOT sun baking the paint to the as-is patina as it sits. We could not bring ourselves to repaint the car yet as we wanted to present the car as a original car as it was found. the car has had only one repaint in the late 60's and the body is lazer straight and dry, rust free from top to bottom, seams, welds, main floors, trunk etc..!
Onlythree areas of light cosmetic application repair were found, during the second repaint process inspection. 1. The passenger lower rear door had a scrape filled, light feathering application,2. the rear mid lower 1/4 drivers side, had a very minor area with feathering, the trunk lid at the big rear emblem area had a ding dent under it,something high hit the top of the lid, feathering repair is now gone, showingmetal base, as shown. The car was then driven for years and then second repaint faded and patina-ed into as it is today. The hood and the trunk lid took the most sun and the old chalky paint was buffed off and the patina now is solid and paint on the car is solid. The car had one more last body light ding dent issue as grandpa drove the drivers side too close to the garage while backing out and the rear passenger door and the rear 1/4 took a grazing swipe down the side as shown the best we can show in photos. So the body is solid as a rock, floors, braces, panels, frame, all original with no repair or cuts or bondo! The car as is as shown no major body damage ever to the car, as all panels are original.
Interior: The interior is all Original with exceptionof a New $550.00 N.O.S. Silver Diamond Headliner and Padded dash insert. The original door panels are in very good shape for the year and are very presentable as-is,They are Leather! TheCarpet is original, but is very stained &dirty, but presentable and useable. The seats will need recovered as the foam is hard and the the material on the inserts is splitting. All the insert buttons are there for the purest restoration to be original if needed. The seat outer areas are Leather and in good shape and could be re-used, the top of the rear seat might need new top leather. The front seat rear side is in great shape and can be used as is and the storage areas behind the front seat are good. Pad is very good also. The front seat has a slip cover now in place. All interior door handles, power window switches, and chrome inserts are in great shape chrome wise too!
Working Component Options: Very Important to know, Power Windows all work, (some witha littlehelp, getting better with use! newly oiled)6 way Power Seat works, All Dash indicators work, guages, lights, radio (after warm up!), map light speed minder buzzer, brake light warning light, 2speedwipers with washers work good, fan high low for heater defrost good, (needs the vacuum actuator small part rubber diaphragm is shot), Air front side vents work like new, clock does not work, dome lights all work nice- all doors, glove box works good, locks and light is good, all power door window switches work at the doors, or with the main unit, all locks work and door handles work, vent windows open close with cranks, high beam indicator good, the blinker indicators and signal switch cancel bar, horn ring good, power antenna works up & down, but shaft is broken but is still there, Front to rear speaker works great, the rare Wonderbar AM radio works when it wants to, takes 10minutes to heat up, (the Wonderbar option foot pedal clicks when depressed and so does the bar button on the radio, needs a new tube) Radio is loud when it pops on, speakers both in good shape! All doors, trunk, shut tight, & lock, and the GM keys all fit and work properly.
Glass & Weather-Stripping: Glass is all good, some have a few bubbles from age showing, chips on front windshield glass and a wiper mar, overall nice glass tinted from factory. (the side windows when up arealigned very good for a 4 door hardtop, at times with some manual adjustment, a hair up, a hair down, on the travel position needed for tight seating to seals. Please see pictures for the nice fit)Weather stripping, doors are GM original and in very good shape, upper window side sealsare all NEW, $350 to purchase and install these, trunk weather-stripping is New also! Trunk metal tray gutters are perfect & rust free & CLEAN! Trunk area is original and has the old lining still with side cardboards, still has theold bias ply Firestone Spare in good shape with the original Jack!
Chrome, Pot Metal, Stainless: The bumpers are original and the front is nice shine but above average driver quality, rear bumper was re-chromed at some point and was a bad job as it has speckles, pealsand a ding, good core to re-chrome. The pot metal is great overall, wing windows great!, door handles & shields, rear lights and front bezels very nice, grill nice, window frames nice!, Stainless trim most all great and the Rare larger wide lower Stainless is in great shape for the car! some very small dings here and there, but not many.
Mechanical: Engine and Transmission, this is a 64,000 mile car from every aspect we see this is correct. Everything under hood looks original, Engine is the Original 445 401 cu in. 325HP engine. (Starts with the touch of the foot, as this is original for the 59 Buick. Turn the key to ON and push your gas pedal to start the car in great working order.) The engine fired right up after sitting for many years, we oiled all cylinders with marvel mystery oil first! The fluids have been changed, oil, radiator (was cleaned, has a few leaks will need resealed), newer fuel pump AC, new oil filter, plugs are clean, engine runs smooth, nice, no smoking. The factory style Dual exhaust system is in great shape, solid and with Midas mufflers, Purs. The Automatic Transmission is the rare special order, Triple Turbine and is in need of a rebuild. The car has the low gear to drive forward is good, but the main drive gearand reversegear arejerky and slipping! Estimates here are from 1500-2900 to rebuild this rare transmission completely. We can do this if you (at cost)want it done here, as we do have a good transmission shop in town. This was the main reason the car was put away and the old age of the former owner. Brakes need checked, has stopping power, but low pedal. E-Brake works GOOD. Could drive up on trailer with the low gear operating ok and e-brake...
All Brand New 4 Radial Tires 275x75x15", all the original rims were sanded and repainted, clean original Buick matching rims.
Overall: This 1959 Buick is got to be one of the last remaining unrestored Electras 225's out there. You will never find one as solid as this one in this beautiful original shape with thenice factory POWER options. Restoring or keeping as a patina Classic this is a great car with lots of potential still left for profit. Title is original clear and ready, state of New Mexico. Some nice original stickers on oil, with dates & mileage, and other info in glove box showing historyin CA and NM, maps, plates and registrations! The car should be trailered and will need winched for safety, unless we do the tranny for you! Thank you for looking. Car is sold "as is" where is and as shown as described.
