Desperately lookingfor a good home is this beautiful factory original 1987 Buick Grand National with 00049 ORIGINAL MILES.Yes, you read that right...Only 49 miles!This car has never been prepped by a dealer, tagged, inspected, or even made street legal since it was manufactured! It has spent its entire life enclosed and protected in car collections spanningColorado,Idaho, andTexas. This is truly an automotive time capsule!As you can see in the pictures, all of the dealer transport protections,tags, and stickers are still intact just as they were when they were installed by the factory inPontiac,Michiganback in October 1987.
Based on the date of manufacture, this is one of the last Grand Nationals manufactured. While I am not certain of the exact production number of this particular car, it was built very close to the end of GN production. There is a possibly that the car you are looking at could be the last of the breed!
The car has been stored indoors since new. It was started and serviced on a routine basis to maintain fluid and seals until the last owner became ill and was unable to maintain it any longer. That last owner was my late brother and I am now selling this car as part of his estate.
My brother was a huge GN expert. I have received considerable knowledge and advice about this car from some wonderful GN enthusiasts around the world and here is what I know to be true and accurate:
- This is a Fully Optioned 1987 Grand National produced in October 1987 and allocated to a dealer inWest Virginia.
- It has Factory Hatch Roof (T-Tops), not the dealer installed mod that was common and horribly complicated.
- 342 Posi rear end option
- Concert Sound option
- Factory gauges (not the Digital Dash option that routinely failed and was prone to being inaccurate)
- Passenger side rear mirror controller option (that joy-stick looking thing under the instrument cluster)
- Rear Defrost option
- Power windows and locks
- Power seat
- The car sold for just under 19k back in 1987
- All of the documents since this car left the factory are included, as well as some extra goodies that I found at my brother's home that are associated with the Grand National.
- Everything on the car is original including the exhaust system, bumper fillers, and tires (which still hold air pressure).
- The picture below is the sticker located on the underside the trunk lid and shows a full list of all option codes on this car.
My brother owned a successful aircraft maintenance company inSouth Texasand was an avid automobile, motorcycle, and aircraft enthusiast. He had a passion for man-toys! In addition to this car, he had a very fast GMC Typhoon and quite a few other really cool vehicles that have already been sold. He kept this car in immaculate condition with the intention of preserving it in his long-term collection. He liked these cars so much that he actually owned another Grand National that he drove to work on a daily basis. Memories of my niece and her dad routinely spending time caring for these cars are vivid in my mind and there is a real sentimental value attached to this vehicle that I will never be able to get back.
My brother was the documented third owner of this car. I have provenance documents that document chain of ownership right back to the exit doors of the General Motors factory in 1987.
The car has apparently beendrivenbrieflytwice in it's lifetime. Both times were by the original owner. My brother told me that the first owner lived inColoradoon what used to be a vast, abandoned Air Force complex he had purchased. He is said to have stored his car collections in the hangars on the old airfield. When the dealership transport vehicle arrived with this car, it had to be unloaded at the main gate and then driven on the private roads to the hangar for storage. Then, 12 years later, it was driven back to the gate and loaded for shipment to the second owner inIdaho. I was told that the original owner saw to it that all his cars were maintained and started on a weekly basis to keep them in fresh and running condition. The second owner in Idaho purchased the car as part of a package deal and only kept it briefly beforeconsummatinga deal to sell it to my brother in early 2000. When my brother bought this car he was so concerned about someone damaging it during transport that he personally drove his truck and trailer from Texas to Idaho and back to ensure nobody else touched it!
Disclosures:
- The bumper fillers on the car are slightly faded. However, they are fully intact and still quite pliable. They have simply faded over time as they all apparently do. They can be replaced or left as-is by the new owner.
- The original battery is missing in action. No battery will be provided to the buyer.
- The paint condition is unknown. The car has been stored inside all of its life but so much dust has accumulated in the last 2 years that I cannot tell if any cracks are currently present. I have been told that cracking is common with these cars due to the poor paint materials used by GM in the 80's. I can say with certainty, however, that the last time I saw the car before my brother passed away there wereZEROdefects in the paint.
- The gas struts will no longer hold the hood open except for a short period of time.
- The car has never been wrecked or scratched. There are no door dings. The doors do not sag. The panels are aligned just they were when the car came off the line in 1987.
The title for the car is clear. The car is availablefor inspectionbyserious parties upon request with reasonable notice. It is located inSan Marcos,Texas which isabout halfway betweenAustinandSan Antonio on I-35.
