Listing a 1969 Jeep Kaiser GLADIATOR J3000 4x4 Buick Dauntless 350 4 speed manual. Acquired from original owners. This was a local NJ SUNOCO road service truck. The chassis is solid because it was undercoated since new. The body is solid considering its age and New England winters, although there are rust holes in sheetmetal. Original patina throughout including hand stenciled advertising and lettering on truck. The Buick 350 V8 is presently out of the vehicle. Since acquiring the truck I have removed the original Meyer's snowplow which comes complete with original literature.
Up till 10 years ago, this truck was parked inside a service station every night. The truck was owned and maintained by a mechanic service station. It was always greased and serviced. Senior Owner parked it 10 years ago to pull the block for rebuild and discovered block was cracked. I have another complete correct Buick 350 Dauntless, non #'s matching. The project was never completed.
The body of the truck has had a repaint. You can see the original color around the SUNOCO portion of the door. There is obvious patina, and some rust through on body and cab floors. The doors close completely true. The tailgate is square and the bed floor is not smashed up like some work trucks. A vintage hood emblem was added along with lights on cab roof line. On the tailgate, I removed the black vinyl phone # decals that were placed over the original hand painted yellow telephone #'s. These black decals still exist on driver's and passenger's door. Anyone who sees it appreciates the appearance of the truck as is, although someone may entertain body work and a full re-spray.
The frame and chassis are in great condition with no rust repairs needed, no patching necessary on frame rails. Original owner personally coated frame with a petroleum based product and a brush in 1969. 50 years later I powerwashed most of it off to expose a solid frame, no rot, no rusted spring shackles. I believe the tires were installed more than 10 years ago and surprisingly hold air and have very limited weather checking or dry rot. I would not recommend driving far or fast on any 10 year old tire. The original hubcaps are present and the chrome still shines nicely.
As stated earlier, the original motor was removed to be freshened up. Upon dismantling it was determined that the engine block was cracked. A correct Dauntless Buick 350 was sourced from PA. All the accessories from the original block were saved and are included in this sale - including but not limited to exhaust manifolds, heads, intake manifold, carb, cam, pistons, water pump, fuel pump, pulleys, rust free oil pan, valve covers (paint removed), brackets, distributor, bolts, belts, hoses etc... Most of the used parts can be seen in photo but I have an additional milk crate of used engine parts. In addition the sale includes bins of NEW parts in boxes such as a cam, multiple gaskets, bearings, pistons, motor mounts, timing chain and gears, rings, brake shoes, clutch part,... Please reference photos. The donor Buick 350 is on an old school heavy duty engine stand that is included with this sale, buyer responsible to put in the back of your transport vehicle. My mechanic buddy pulled the spark plugs out, poured SeaFoam and Mystery oil in to soak for 48 hours. With a socket and pry bar he easily freed the motor and red Mystery oil burped out of the spark plug hole all over my garage. The motor is free and not stuck. That is all I can tell you about it. Based on how well the truck was kept, I am presuming all the parts are here to reassemble the motor but I cannot guarantee it. Some friends say the engine could be easily operable, others say stuff in a built small block. As with repainting or leaving patina, the engine build or choice is up to the new Owner. Under the hood, the original red wiper fluid is present and in very good condition. Battery has been removed but battery holder is included. Upgraded GM alernator and other accessories like starter, exaust dowpipe, power steering pump,... are all present a secured for transport. Upgraded brake booster. Original radiator looks well preserved.
INTERIOR: This truck was so well greased the bolts for the bench seat spun right off. Inside the cab was vacuumed, surprisingly not infested with mice. The vinyl seat cover is intact, no tears, shows its appealing age and is soo comfortable. Headliner, gauges, door skins are all in tact with some wear. The dash pad has shrank and is pulling away from metal dash. There is a small metal JEEP GLADIATOR emblem that was removed from dash and stored in glove box. Inside the glove box you will find original Jeep owner's manual in clear plastic original Jeep bag from 1969. The glove box insert is still in very good condition. Also included is Meyer's snow plow literature. The center Jeep emblem on steering wheel is pushed in and repairable with some epoxy. The plate, shift boot and trim around the transmission hump and transfer case all present. Decades ago a shelf was installed behind the seat for a vintage tool box, at 12V spot light with alligator clips, slim jim for lock outs, vintage first aid kit... The base of the windshield glass is foggy.
I have removed the grill mounted portion of plow mount/pump to expose gladiator grill. Upon opening the inner fender mounted plow cable control box, I could see how well the truck was kept as all internal components were carefully greased. The plow frame is still installed on the chassis. The plow is 100% solid American steel with no bashes, bends and no signs of rust through anywhere. It is 100% solid. The bottom scraper bar is hardly worn. Sale includes 2 worn skid shoes and 4 new skid shoes. Purchaser of this package must be prepared to pick this plow up (and motor) for transport. Sorry but you and I cannot lift it into the back of your rig. That goes for the engine, engine picker and I will include an old school engine stand as well. Included with sale are vintage plow accessory lights which were mounted to the factory radiator support bolts.
The lower portion of passenger beside has been re-designed, cut and hinged to accommodate an extra battery for servicing broken down vehicles. The metal work is all in tact, but the internal box was made of plywood which is past its life expectancy. The battery box is on slide tracts. I do not like modifying or cutting into factory sheetmetal, but this was done well and is in line with the functionality of a road service truck.
I have taken the time to thoroughly describe this unique vehicle. My description is longer than some $88,000.00 Porsches listed here on eBay. It is a complete package for the right buyer with qualifications to complete. Part of me says get it running, but I do not have the garage space to store it and preserve it for another 50 years.
Odometer reads approximately 75,000 miles.
