Description

This is an outstanding original BuickSpecial Riviera.Only 31097 original miles.Always stored indoors. It has never had any rust issues at all other thansome minorsurface rust underside invarious areas. ( see pictures ). IT HAS NOT BEEN RESTORED. It is sporting it's original paint, chrome, sheet metal, interior, spare tire, etc. The paint is in great condition. Still shines very well. There have been some very minor rock chips touched up, but that is it. Body isstraight as an arrow. The chrome and stainless trim is all original also, and all is in great shape. I cannot imagine what it would cost to have the chrome on a 1958 GM carreplated, but obviously it would be more than half of what I am asking for the whole car. There is no need for any re-chroming. The drivers side tail light bezel has a small crack on the side of it. I did not even notice it until Iwashed the car for the first time. ( see close up picture ) All lights work. The tires have about 90% tread left on them, but I have no idea how old they are.
The interior is also all original and ingreat shape minus the headliner. This car spent many years in Florida and I guess the salt air got to it. There are rust stains on it that will not come out, so it should be replaced. There is also one small crack in theglove box door vinyl. ( see picture ) All of thegauges work minus the speedometer. The odometer works but the actual drum that displays the speed kind of works, but it is not right. May work after more miles are put on the car, but no promises. Horn, wipers, heater, vent cables, cigarette lighter, etc, all work. The AM radio works and sound just fine. The clock does not work.Thismust have been a little old ladies car as the front seat was set uphigher with wood blocks so she could see over the dash.
It has the tried and proven 2 barrelcarbureted364 Nail Head V-8 matched to the 2 speed automatic transmission. The 2speed auto in the day was the cheeper trans, but now they are the moredesirable trans to have. The 4speed hydramatic units are hard the find parts for andmechanics that can work on them. The 2 speeds arebasically the same as a Chevroletpower glide. Plenty of parts available and mechanics thatknow how to work on them. The engine is cold natured but runs out just fine. Trans shifts great. No major oil leaks fromeither of them. The drivers side exhaust manifold has a crack in it. It has a leak noise until it heats up, then it seems to be OK. I would figure on replacing it and the rest of the exhaust atsome point. The car stops fine but it does to pull to the left under heavy braking. There is no power anything. It does have a new battery.
All in all, this is a super nice car with extremely low original miles, in abeautiful color combination. 1958 Buicks,Pontiacs, andOldsmobiles had more chrome on them than any other year, and more chrome than any other manufacturer in any year, and Buicks were the mostbeautiful of them all.
It just passed Missouristate inspection and is ready to drive just the way it is.However, before I would make any long trips, I would have all mechanics checked out.
