Description

These cars are a ton of fun to drive and they are getting more and more collectible every day. While it is temping to modify these cars because both the engines and the chassis can handle more power without breaking a sweat, the ones that have remained completely stock, like this one, are the ones that will hold their value best. Check out this well-maintained example with less than 45,000 miles on it and see if there might be a... spot in your garage for it. '87 was the last year for this car that pays tribute to the NASCAR series it was named after. There is only one look for these cars, and that would be awesome. They should have called the color of this car Bad-assed Black, because just, "Black", doesn't seem to get the point across very well. The front of the car leads with a simple, all-black grill which is one of the things that distinguishes this '87 from previous models. It is underlined by a body colored bumper and has a power bulge on the hood with lettering that identifies the beast within. Blacked out trim and tinted windows look great on this notchback and the back of the car is as clean looking as the front with a lip spoiler on the trailing edge of the trunk. Grand National badging appears on the front fenders as well as the trunk and alloy wheels in black and polished aluminum complete the look. Open the door and you will find an interior loaded with comfort and convenience features along with a few subtle performance goodies. It's hard to believe someone resisted the temptation to put some serious miles on this car, but obviously they did. Sweet looking Grand National seats have Gray cloth pleated seating surfaces and Black side bolters with the Turbo logo embroidered into the headrests. There is a beefy, three-spoke, leather wrapped steering wheel mounted on a tilt column that feels good in your hands. The rectangular, center mounted speedometer has linear tachometer and boost gauges in the lower right just above the 3.8 Turbo badge. Ventilation controls including those for the air conditioning are in the center just above an AM/FM/Cassette player for your listening pleasure. Keeping with the black and gray theme, there are gray floor mats protecting the black carpeting and a gray headliner ties the look together nicely. While this car looks cool and is a pleasure to drive around town, the power of the engine under the hood is what this car is all about. Buick engineers decided develop this 3.8-liter V6 into the turbocharged engine that would become legendary. Using Turbo technology to boost the output of this engine opened the door, and the temptation, to boost the power even more with bigger turbos and trick programing of the computer. But that comes at a cost. Both to the engine, and to the value of the car. This one thankfully remains completely stock. Power is sent back through a 4-speed automatic transmission with overdrive to the solid axle rear end mounted on coil springs with an anti-roll bar. Up front, control arms and coils along with another beefy sway bar keep the front end planted. Power front disc brakes ensure that you can haul this sweet ride back down from speed when you decide to let it run and the rubber meets the road through d 235/60R15 tires all around. Collectible. Fun to drive. Good looking with low mileage. Come on down and check this car out.
