1970 Cadillac Coupe
Description
1970 Cadillac CoupeE-bay says this car is a DeVille based on the VIN# but I think it's a Calais.
The car came to me by trade a few months ago. I sold a car out of my private collection and the buyer paid me cash and this car as payment for the one he bought from me.I would describe the overall condition of the car as a cool looking low priced project that you can drive and enjoy as you tinker with it. This is not a mint restored 30K Cadillac. It's an entry level Cadillac of this era that looks cool and isn't much money. If you want a mint 30K restored Cadillac of this era I suggest you look at other ones vs this one. I have a very high end collection of cars and trucks and I have zero interest or need for this vehicle. This is the reason I'm selling it.
Drivetrain:Car has 46759 original miles. Motor sounds good (has exhaust leak at manifold but I have a new set of gaskets in the trunk for it) and it has plenty of power. Transmission shifts good through all gears and reverse. I have put about 250 miles on the car since I took possession of it from the last owner. It drives like a 1970 Cadillac that has not been restored. If you don't know what that means stop reading now.
Body:Overall very solid for a 1970 Cadillac that lived its life on the east coast. Paint work was done I was told 3-4 years ago and it still have a nice shine. The fenders, doors, rockers, hood, trunk lid are solid. The drivers floor front needs a small patch but the rest of the floor is solid. The trunk floor had the common Cadillac rust in the corners and was fixed by the last owner. The rear quarter lowers were done when it was painted and they need to be redone if you are picky. Both skirts are showing some of the old metal work and should be done again if you are picky. The body has some paint chips and you can see them in the pictures. I think all the exterior lights work but don't quote me on that. The paint is nice but no show quality by any means. Glass is all good. Chrome is decent for never being done and all the trim is with the car. Marker lights were removed on rear fins and you can see a little outline were the fill work was done.
Suspension - Brakes - EtcCar has 3inch lowering springs (not cut factory springs) and new shocks all around. Car has a newer exhaust and newer wide white wall tires with a ton of tread left on them. Brakes work fine and brake lines were not leaking last time I looked. The power steering pump has a little squeak if you turn the steering hard in either direction. It may need to be replaced but I don't know. The front end has had some new parts added. The gas tank was removed, cleaned, and sealed. A new radiator and water pump have been installed.
Interior:Front seats need to be redone and they do not work. I don't think they are wired. Rear seat is original and it's in good shape for being very old. Needs a headliner (only half of it is still in place. Car still has its original sun visors. The door cards could use some work as you can see from the pictures. The rug is new but needs to be installed correctly. Seat belts are in truck and need to be installed. Some other interior trinkets are also in the trunk that need to be reinstalled. Windows go up and down but they move slow. Driver window only goes half way down. I think it's getting hung up on a wire or something stuck in the door.
Stuff that needs to be tinkered with IMO (it may need more but I have not spent enough time with the car to know for sure)The last owner fiddled with the doors and some of the wiring when the car was painted. As a result of this the heat and ac do not work. I think all the gauges work but they don't light up. The wipers work but don't want to come up from under the hood. Interior work as I described above. The radio doesn't work. There may be more things the car needs but it can be driven as you do the work. Drivers window as stated above etc.
I have described the car as honest as I can based on my knowledge about it. If you are expecting a mint condition car that doesn't need any work for the reserve I have set go look at mint examples and buy one of those. This car is a project and it needs work / tinkering. If you don't have the tools, money, and and know how to work on old cars then do not bid on this one. If you would like to see the car in person please email me and we can set up a time. If you don't have the money or means to purchase the car do not bid or waste my time with questions.
