Description

1961 Cadillac series 6200 coupe

70,612 original miles, Extremely solid, great mechanicals, original interior, but crappy paint.I rescued this car over a year or so ago from an older gentleman who owned it for many years . It was not running and the brakes were stuck.Since then, I have gone through almost every aspect of the car to get it back up to a good running and driving condition.

Originally delivered in Olympic white with 2 tone black checked cloth and white vinyl interior, this series 6200 coupe(6237G) was equipped with power steering, power brakes, power windows, power seat, vanity mirror,a radio, dual speed wipers and washer, and dual outside rearview mirrors. This car has the original 390 cid V8 with 4 barrel carburetor producing 325 hp and 430 torque.

Items I have taken care of: replaced the exhaust front to rear including a new heat riser; Exhaust manifold gaskets replaced; new wheel cylinders, brake lines, brake master cylinder; carburetor and fuel pumprebuild, fuel system flushed, tank cleaned; new cap, rotor, plugs, wires, air cleaner, belts;generator rebuilt; transmission seals replaced; new battery and ground cable; valve cover gaskets; and fresh oil and filter.

This Cadillac runs wonderfully and shifts perfect. It always starts right up. All the brake hardware looked new, the tires are barely used but a little dry from being on so long without use and have a little flat spot feel from sitting. The lights all work but it will need a new highbeam floor button, it is stuck on highbeam. The wiper switch is broken but I have found and replacement and another vacumn junction which is included. The radio works as does the power antenea. There is some corrosion on the driver side rearview mirror but I have sourced a better used one which is also included. The matching spare tire has never been used. The jack and tire iron are present also.

The interior is in great original condition. The driver seat has a few slits on it but the rest of the seats are very nice. The white vinyl areas have a little bit of discoloring but look the part. The original carpet and floor mats are really nice also. All the door panels are nearly perfect as is the dash top. All the gauges are working nicely too. The headliner is horrible and will need replacing, it has a few holes and stains. The power seat moves forward and back but does not tilt. All four power windows work, the interior lights work, and the heater fan works. Both manual vent windows function also. The trunk has most of its cardboard? but does not have the cloth base(the glue was brown so it looks rusty but it is not at all).

The Body is very solid, there is no rot or rust holes anywhere underneath. The paint is a terrible repaint from many years ago that was never wet sanded or buffed, I did the hood and the fins which made it look so much better but the paint isn’t thick enough to really get the orange peel out. It has a bunch of little rust spots where the clips and trim were but no holes except for the 1961 Cadillacs nemesis spots-front lower hood and rear lower trunk. I have pictures showing these spots. Luckily, the 3rd common rust area is perfect-the front fenders are rust free somehow. The trunk(rear deck lid) had a bunch of large rust spots all over it from a car cover that was wadded up on it and sitting. The previous owner did not realize his roof was leaking on the back of the car so the cover was damp. I sanded it down and rattle canned some primer and white paint on it to seal it. I did not fill in and flat block it. Oddly the car looks nearly perfect from 20 feet away, but it’s when you get up close that you see the imperfections.

The car is more then presentable as it is but no show car. With a repaint, a headliner, and an engine detail, this will be quite a stunner. I have done my best to get the mechanicals up to par, I am just unable to complete it and return it to its former glory as it did when it left the plant. Please-come see the car before bidding or send an agent for you. The winning bidder is the new owner, this is an auction. I adhere to all of this sites rules and regulations. I have more pictures if needed.
