1960 Cadillac BIarritz Convertible Barn Find 60K Miles Sabre Wheels Parade Boot
Description
This 1960 Cadillac Biarritz Convertible is a barn find from Minnesota.Items with the car show it was in that area as early as 1978, possibly since new.Not run and stored since the 1990's, it was recently purchased from the Estate.
I have owned one other of these rare cars (only 1285 made +/-) previously and could not believe how complete and authentic this car is. I have no doubt that the mileage indicated of 60K is correct.
Car started up easily after purchase and engine is very quiet (except for bad mufflers)Air Ride compressor is operational and car will rise (but does sit at proper height)The factory air ride system is 100% complete with all leveling valves and lines.
Brakes would not pump up so booster has been removed and rebuilt with correct diaphragm. Factory Master Cylinder required sleeve and rebuild.Wheel cylinders are being replaced at this time.
Tri-Power and Air Cleaner are obviously original to car and the vacuum switches and all linkage are intact and functional. All "3" carbs are factory and have the original tags with correct numbers as pictured.
As soon as the car is up on the rack I will confirm it is Numbers Matching which I have NO doubt of.(Cadillac did stamp blocks with VIN # just above oil pan on block side)
The optional Kelsey Hayes (Sabre) die cast wheels are surprisingly good with NO curb damage- -but all 5ea wheels do have expected pitting which I would call typical.
Trim on the car, especially the unique Biarritz full length body side moldings are exceptional and complete. Both Fender Skirts are intact and decent complete.
Paint appears to have been done in the 70's or 80's and according to a note the manual is Dupont Lucite. The car has NOT been buffed or touched up for the photos- -just washed.
Front Bumpers are thin in the bottom and have some rust thru as expected for the region. However, the underside of the car is much cleaner than expected with NO rot found. Factory Undercoat Present. Trunk floor is also very good.Front body mount brackets still retain factory black with NO rot.
Interior original leather is cracked as expected and has only been wiped down- -but NO splits or holes. Carpets are intact with some dry rot and thin spots- -but are original. Seats do have the optional back pockets that were not standard.
I will be pulling the pan on the tranny this week for signs of clutch pieces- -but so far there is NO indication that the turbo 4 speed has any issues.
Top appears to be the original (yellowed) and back glass is intact- -but zipper is broken. Top motor works well and top will go up and down. The optional fiberglass "Parade Boots" are overall very nice with only 1 crack that would be easily repaired. The original bag is present but is poor condition- -but good enough for an excellent pattern.
Car does have the optional glove box actuated accessory trunk latch release. Trunk lining is completely original and complete with all shields in Fair condition overall. The latch cover is present but not attached.
Car has 2 manuals, jacking instructions and a spec sheet. Original tire iron, spare cover/nut and 5th Kelsey spare wheel are present. Jack is missing.
Windshield appears to be the OEM EZ Eye with NO chips or cracks or repairs visible. All 4 window motors operate, but the pass rear frame is broken. Pass front window is cracked.
You can not ask for a more complete and un-messed with 60 Biarritz, especially that the air ride is still complete is very rare.
-Original Eldorado letters are not installed on LF fender but are in glove box.-Generator has the cooling cone on the back- -but the shield and hose are missing.-All vacuum tanks are intact and will hold vacuum.-Cruise control has NOT been tested.-Clock is NOT operating.-Radio does NOT come on.-Drivers door wiring shield is missing.
