Description

Pains me to do this, but know it will go on to a good home. Up for sale is my 1941 Cadillac Series 61. My great grandfather was the original owner. He was a Doctor and used this for house calls around the Northern, NJ area. He passed in the 70s, my grandfather drove it a few years more and parked it in a garage in 1978. In my grandmothers final years, she said if I could get it running, I could have it. I accepted the challenge, pulled it out of the garage it was sitting in since 1978 and had at it.
Removed the cylinder heads and had them machined true and cleaned. removed pistons, honed cylinders, soaked the rings and freed them, disassembled lifters, cleaned and reassembled with new gaskets.New water pump and radiator re-cored.
Rebuilt starter, converted generator to 12 Volt Neg ground but made it easy to switch back to 6V original if wanted. Mended all frayed wires. cannot seem to get turn signals working.
Added new master cylinder, brake lines, wheel cylinders and brake shoes. checked all bearings all around, re-packed front and changed rear differential oil and pinion seal.Changed transmission oil.Rebuilt carburetor and distributor points, installed a battery and vroom fired right up and runs strong.Removed wheels had them blasted and powdercoated added new tubes and and restoration tires from Vintage Tire.
The Bad: I scuffed the body and slapped a coat of black on it. Which looks good from a few feet back. It has rust in the doors, the door sills and where the rear fenders mount to the body. After the rebuild, the engine still smokes and burns a quart or two of oil between fill ups. The filler neck on the new gas tank broke, it needs repair or new fuel tank, I don't fill above half tank now.
I've worked very hard and have put many hours and dollars into this vehicle. I did what I could to fulfill my families hopes and dreams but the vehicle needs a new home and someone who can truly bring this car back to its original glory. The title is clear and current in New Jersey and in my name. I am willing to facilitate help with shipping and answer any questions you may have.
