Mildly restyled for 1962, Cadillacs Series 62-based Coupe de Ville and Sedan de Ville were without doubt the top GM divisions most important and best-selling models. As expected, standard de Ville features were many for 1962, with the addition of a remote-controlled outside rearview mirror, five tubeless black wall tires, a heater/defroster and the enhanced safety provided by a pair of cornering lamps up front. Riding characteristics were finely tuned and quietness enhanced by Cadillacs engineers using sophisticated chassis-testing equipment simulating a wide array of road conditions. In particular, the Coupe de Ville 2-door hardtop delivered a sporting, yet elegant presence and with its 325 HP, 390 CI V-8 engine, high-speed cruising up to 120 mph depending on the rear-axle ratio.
