Description

Vehicle Overview Collectors and critics of vintage Cadillac's agree that the 1966 DeVille was the year when GM got everything right. The sleek, sophisticated lines of this American icon of luxury are perfectly balanced in every way. And because it only had a two year run, this last of the rear wheel drive convertibles is becoming increasingly difficult to find. But in this condition: impossible!
This distinguished luxury cruiser is powered by Cadillac's 429 CID 16-valve OHV V8. The engine produced 340 hp @ 4,600 rpm with 651 Nm of peak torque @ 3,000 rpm. Performance was rated at an impressive 0-60 mph in 8.7 seconds, 0-100 mph in 24.8 seconds with a top speed of 127 mph. It could do the 1/4 mile @ 87 mph in 16.4 seconds. The engine is mated to GM's Turbo Hydra-Matic THM 400 3-speed automatic transmission.
The exterior is finished in the ultra rare Mist Blue (code 20) in a finish that can only be described as like Baccarat crystal. With the exception of a few areas touched up (detectable only with a meter), the exterior paint is original. In fact everything about this car is original. The, glass, engine, chrome, top and undercarriage are spectacularly original, as well as all the electronics, air conditioning (a huge plus!), antenna and power options which work flawlessly. The chrome is as day-1 as is free from pitting and hazing anywhere on the car. Note the absence of small bumper dents or inclusions and the eye-popping chrome bezels that surround. A thing of beauty to behold.
As the images reflect, this interior is one of the nicest original interiors I have seen in all my years of collecting classic cars. Again one true indicators of a car's DNA is the steering wheel, chrome, glass and pedals. This car shows virtually without wear, misuse or neglect. Down to the unused ash trays and carpet that appears to have never been stepped on without the protection of mats, this interior has been protected perfectly over the years. The interior was recently inspected by one of the preeminent Cadillac experts in the southwest who certified that the stunning blue interior (code 320) is 100% original and the perforated leather is supple, taut and clearly has spent very little time in the sun over the last half century.
The under-carriage of any car tells its life story, and this one reads like a novel of privilege and discipline. The car has clearly been spared from harsh elements of nature and shows the patina and originality of a true 27,000 mile car. No rust anywhere on this American icon which, as lovers of the car know, were susceptible to frame rust and corrosion. None of that here! It is absolutely rock solid and free of rust corrosion and the gunk, oil and grime that would be reflective of a higher mile car. Mercifully, the original owner was wise enough to resist the dealer myth about "rust-proofing" the car, so you can see its magnificent, unvarnished condition.
The engine bay is in spectacular original condition and has not been gummed up with the horrible petroleum products and spray paint some use to try to camouflage the true condition of the engine. The engine bay has original ties, markings and, with the exception of belts and battery, displays pretty much as it would have been presented 50 years ago.
But wait until you drive the car. . . Unlike some of lesser pedigree, this DeVille floats down the road perfectly straight, without shakes, rattles or wobbles. Driving this car is the quintessential luxury experience of the period in American history when anything was possible. Equipped with the rare "controlled differential" option, the car is amazingly sure-footed and does not rock or sway as do most 50+ year old cars. The car now sits on new period-correct new tires and handsome Tru-spoke wheels. The car will be delivered with the original wheels and virtually pristine wheel covers, or the current wheels and tires can be negotiated at additional cost.
Many of my colleagues in the collector world who have seen this car have remarked about the incredible originality of this "bucket list" car and have commented that it is the finest original 1966 DeVille convertible they have seen. Truly this is a once in a lifetime example and is sure to find it's place alongside the acclaimed Cadillac's of the late 50's which are now fetching prices in the 6-digit range. Fairly priced at $44,895 this 1966 Cadillac is irreplaceable at any price.
