classic vintage chrome Caddy American luxury GM hardtop
Description
This 1950 Cadillac Series 61 hardtop coupe has a wonderful personality that owns the road. And with its correct big V8 under the hood, and a very vintage overall presentation, this example upholds the best Caddy traditions - all for a terrific price.
There were only about 11,500 examples of the Series 61 Club Coupe produced in 1950, and you can just imagine how many others have survived 70 years to be this complete. So this one is already attractive for its rarity, but the appeal of this coupe goes much deeper. Cadillacs of this era are opulence on wheels. Everything from the flying lady hood ornament, to the gas cap hidden behind a flip-up taillight are designed to make every other driver jealous. The factory-correct Corinth Blue was resprayed about 20 years ago, and so it retains a nice shine while still never being so perfect that you would be afraid to take it out for a drive. And of course, everyone knows the true standout is the brightwork. The huge form-hugging bumpers, intricate trim, deep V badging, factory wheel covers, and everything else is complete on this example. It's a true exercise in style where the grille seamlessly flows into the wraparound front trim and then through the door line. All these details wouldn't look so great if it were not for body panels that have been treated with respect for seven decades.
They refinished the interior at about the same time as the repaint. The color was upgraded to blue to harmonize with the exterior. Still, this classic does not want to lose its vintage personality, and so the pattern retains a nice classic style. In fact, there are some items that remains truly untouched. The factory AM radio is still there for display, and the steering wheel still lets you feel the grooves of the drivers that came before you in this multi-generational classic. Also, nothing gets in the way of that true Caddy cruiser feeling.
Power comes from Cadillac's famous 331 cubic-inch OHV V8. This was a motor that was both hardy and smooth. So while this was one of its first years in use, the design echoed all the way into the 1970s. This history is why it's great to have such an honest-looking powerhouse that is also believed to be original to the car. More than just the motor, the whole engine bay appears to be highly original. It includes the Cadillac Blue paint still clinging to the block, an original-style air cleaner, and all the major accessories intact. And while this one has a story to tell, it's also ready to hit the road. With the Hydramatic automatic transmission, hypnotic hum of the dual exhaust, and Cadillac's legendary ride quality, this how you want vintage cruising to be.
