64 Chevy C-10 Pickup Fleetside short box
Description
Chevy C10 Fleetside short box pickup. I purchased this recently and found that this is more of a project truck than I wanted.
Engine is a transplanted 350 V-8 with a 4 barrel carb, probably from 1970. It starts easy and runs good. Exhaust is a dual exhaust with a good note to it.
Transmission is a Muncie close ratio M-21 four speed built for a 1970 model year vehicle. It is shifted with a Hurst floor shifter.
Brakes are manual non-power four wheel drum. Brakes are currently being upgraded from the single master cylinder to a later dual master cylinder to provide split braking for safety.
Wheels are Cragar mags that need a little spit and polish to look their best. Tires have plenty of tread but are in serious need of replacement due to dry rot, something not disclosed to me when I bought the truck.
Frame and undercarriage looks straight and relatively clean for an unrestored truck.
The body is what you can expect from a 53 year old unrestored vehicle. Is there rust? Does a bear go in the woods? Most of the usual rusty areas on this generation of truck - front fenders, rockers, door bottoms, and cab corners have body filler. None appear to have significant bubbling showing, but if all traces of rust weren't removed before the filler was packed in, it's still there. The bed panels behind the rear wheels don't show nearly as much body filler as the cab, so these may have been replaced at some time. I found only a single pinhole in the high cab area above the windshield, on the underside of the overhang. Usually, there is considerable rust through in the drip rail and the underside of the overhang.
Bed wood was replaced at some point in the past. Current wood appears generally solid, although some pieces have buckled and split - not an unusual occurrence.
Paint looks OK from a distance, except for the passenger door and immediately behind the door where there are numerous chips, apparently from an unpadded tarp strap when a prior owner tarped the truck. There are chips elsewhere over the body, but most are not nearly as visible as the one area of the door.
Most of the glass is good, without significant fogging, etc. The big rear window does have a crack directly behind the driver.
The original bench seat is gone, replaced with buckets on homemade pedestals. The buckets look like they may have come from an Impala from that era. The steering column has been replaced with an Ididit tilting column. Steering is strictly manual, no power other than good biceps. There are several small items in the interior - no glove box liner, some missing trim, missing ash tray, missing cigar lighter insert, aftermarket stereo trim plate missing, etc.
The good - the truck starts, runs, and drives decent. The bad - needs tires and needs a parking brake, which was apparently removed when the engine and transmission swap was done.
Ebay requires a mileage number in the listing. The odometer is only a 5 digit model so I added 100,000 miles, although it could have rolled over more than once on a truck this old.
