The 1970 Camaro beget the second-generation and featured many different styling cues including the knock out styling of the RS split bumper front grille. The new car was longer, lower, and wider than the first generation Camaro. It was considered a gorgeous design inspired by European sports cars, and delayed production proved to be no match for its sales and production numbers. Here at MotoeXotica we are please to offer this fine “split bumper” example finished in highly desirable Hugger Orange exterior with black interior and those famous black hood/trunk stripes!

Made in May of 1970 at the General Motors’ Van Nuys, California factory, this particular Camaro has been fully professionally restored, with a show-quality Hugger Orange that matches its body data plate and fitted with a cowl hood, Z28 rear trunk spoiler with two black painted racing stripes on the hood and trunk. This Camaro is also cosmetically equipped with all the RS goodies such as the RS split bumper, RS grille, parking lights, Hide-a-Way black wipers, and bright accented taillights and back-up lights. The paint/trim are in excellent shape, as are the car’s windows, which are clear and crack-free. The car’s lights are similar excellent order, intact and clear. It also has new rubber and chrome trim. All of the body panels are solid and straight, the engine bay is extremely tidy with a chrome dress up kit. The front and rear bumpers are in the same similar brilliant condition as the rest of the body.

Under the big hood is a 396 CID big-block V-8 with Cal Custom aluminum valve covers and headers, a Weiand intake manifold, a Holley four-barrel carburetor and high-energy ignition. Backing up that engine is a Turbo Hydramatic 400 three-speed automatic transmission and a 3.73 rear end. Car breathes through a custom 2.5-inch exhaust system, including Flowmaster mufflers to give it the proper ponycar sound. Driver assist features include power steering and Z28 power brakes, including front discs.

The car rolls on BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires, sized 245/60R15 at all four corners, with original five-spoke Z28 rally wheels. The car sits atop a renewed suspension to improve its handling and drivability and is also equipped with front and rear sway bars. The car’s brakes revamped to ensure this ponycar stops as well as it goes.

Inside, there’s a new black interior with the famous horseshoe shifter in the center console. The front buckets and rear demi-buckets are in excellent shape, as is the matching carpet and headliner. The black instrument panel transports the driver and passenger right back to the era of Astro Ventilation and hidden windshield wipers. The steering wheel is a three-spoke aftermarket one that blends with the rest of the interior, as do the inner door panels. The mirror glass is in very good order, even the Rally sideview mirrors. Rounding out the interior is a factory AM radio.

Competition to the Camaro in 1970 included AMC’s Javelin and AMX, Dodge’s Dart, Ford’s Mustang, Mercury’s Cougar, Plymouth’s Barracuda and Pontiac’s Firebird.
