RARE 1965 CHEVROLET STEP VAN
Super rare 1965 Chevrolet Step Van delivery vehicle manufactured in Canada. Body was madeby Commercial Body Builders Ltd of Vancouver, B.C. Thechassis is a 1965 Chevy short wheelbase P10 Forward Control chassis. Some have suggested that this is a Divco Dividendmodel, but it is not. CBB manufactured a short run of these in 1965 and 66. It is estimated that they made half a dozen only in 1965.
FEATURES: This vehicle has a unique design using a one piece fibreglass front and roof section. The sides and rear panels are sheet metal. It has curved Plexiglas front corner windows to eliminate blind spots. The exterior paint on the roofdoes not cover the centersection which makes for an interesting translucent skylight in the interior.
THE GOOD: Having a 1965 chassis means it has fairly modern style running gear with an independent front suspension and a trailing arm rear suspension. It has a 12 bolt rear axle with positraction. It has unique tri-bar style front signal lights. The fiberglas overall is in great condition. It has straight body panels on both sides. The front section inside is checkerplate with the parcel area being hardwood. It is in good shape too. Corvair style dashboard. Has sliding pocket doors on both sides. Rear doors are barn doors.
THE BAD: The front bumper is missing. It uses a 60-66 Chevy truck bumper. The grille is bent a bit, but should be an easy fix. The glass is old and has cracks and fogging. It is all flat glass. The front Plexiglas corner windows are hazed badly. The front wheel well on the passenger side has some cracks. The passenger door has no outside door handle. Drivers seat is garbage. Sliding doors will need some lube. Step wells both have little areas of rust that will need patching. There is a hole cut into the ceiling just above the drivers seat. Most likely for a vent. Rub rails on both sides have some pin hole rust areas. Both lower body panels on sides have been replaced with galvanized material andpaint is not adhering. Rear corners both have rust at bottoms. Rear bumper is tweaked and should probably be removed. The rear doors have no glass, or handles. Rear tail lights are missing, but they are standard 4" round lenses. Tires are garbage.
THE EXTRAS: Included in this auction are parts necessary to upgrade the suspension. There is a complete Chevy Truck front suspension, which is a bolt in. This front end has lowering springs and dropped spindles for a total drop of about 3 1/2". It has heavy duty disc brakes with new calipers and brake lines. The brake system is completed with a mid90s Dodge full size van power brake master cylinder with a 90 degree mount. The 12 bolt rear can be upgraded with the included NEW axle shafts to convert it to 5 bolt wheel pattern matching the truck front end. Included are NEW rear brake drums to match the 5 bolt pattern. The front suspension can be rebuilt using the INCLUDED NEW upper and lower ball joints, tie rod ends, and upper and lower A-arm bushings. There is also included a truck power steering box and NEW mounting plates to mate it to the 1965 chassis. Included also NEW lowering blocks for the rear axle.
