True SS 396 Car, restored with cruising in mind.
This car was purchased from the second owner about 3 years ago. I looked for a long time before finding this car. I wanted something rust free,because I knew I was going to be putting a lot of effort into the car and I wanted to start with something solid. What I found, was a very nice 1970 El Camino. Almost everything mechanical is new: Motor (about 5,000 miles), transmission, suspension including all the springs, brakes, battery, alternator, dual electric fans, carburetor, and distributor. All the weather stripping has been replaced with new soft seal rubber. Also, all the body mounts have been replaced. This is absolutely beautiful and carries a gorgeous shade of Blue. The previous owner, in buffing out the clear coat, cut through it in a few places. There are two very slight dents, one on the driver's side rear fender (very shallow and about 2" in diameter) & one on the driver's side door (about the size of a 25 cent piece and extremely shallow). The paint was not broken on either. There's a slight blemish on the dashboard above the glove box about the size of a nickel. A couple tiny dents on top of the stainless steel bed rail on the passenger side of the pickup bed.
HANDLES LIKE A DREAM
She handles well due to many different features: The original Chevrolet Rally Wheels provide for many different options when choosing your rubber and currently they are fitted with Uniroyals in the front and rear. To help keep this car glued to the ground we added the thickest sway bars we could find. All new polyurethane bushings and a 12-bolt rear-end with 3.07 gears keep the rear from losing traction and put the power to the ground. New power disc brakes on the front provide excellent stopping power to bring the car back down from high speeds. The car is equipped with power steering and brakes.
A NEW DRIVE TRAIN TO BUTTON HER UP
This 396 is bored .40 over with a High Out-put engine block. It has Edelbrock aluminum heads, double roller timing chain, air gap aluminum intake intake manifold. Edelbrock 750 CFM Carburetor. The engine is now close to 400 HP. The transmission is a Tremec Series 600 5 speed with less than 1000 miles on it.
