SS RS Indianapolis 500 Pace Car
Description
Just in time for Hot August Nights!!
Celebrating the 50th year of this special edition car! This Indianapolis 500 Pace Car is what is referred to as a "dealer reproduction." (Select dealers were allocated these vehicles in advance of the 5/30/67 race.) It is not one of the track cars and it is NOT a clone. Actual production numbers are unknown, but altogether it is estimated that this falls somewhere between 350 & 600 cars. Today, there are less than 200 Pace Cars know to exist (including track cars, festival cars, and dealer reproductions.) The vehicle originally came from a dealership in the Lake Forest/Elmhurst area of Illinois. (I believe it was "Long Chevrolet.") I have traced the ownership back and three other people owned it before I acquired it. It was assembled in Norwood, Ohio in the 4th week of April 1967. (The last ownerhad it storedfor 30+ years.)
As far as original equipment/options, here's what it originally came with:
Deluxe interior convertible.
Bright Blue Interior
Assembled in Norwood, Ohio
Deluxe Bright Blue bucket seat interior
Bucket seats without headrests.
Ermine White exterior paint
White convertible top.
Power convertible top
Center console
4 speed manual transmission M20
Rally Sport equipment.
SS350
Pace Car
Currently, the transmission and differential are still original. The motor was replaced and I was unable to locate the original block. (I do however have a '67 350 block that could go with the car.) I believe most of the interior vinyl, door covers, and carpet have been replaced (matching OEM parts). The car was repainted about 10 years ago (it is not the exact factory white). The white convertible top has been replaced with a black one. (Power top works.) There is no body panel rust and only surface rust on the undercarriage. However, it does have some minor imperfections. It's not a museum car, it's one of the few that can be driven & really enjoyed! I put new tires (red line radials) on it and added an aftermarket stereo (that looks like the stock one) and replaced a few other parts with factory reproduction parts. (Headlight doors work!) I don't drive the car much (maybe 300 miles/year), have shown it a few times and taken it on some car cruises. As I mentioned, it's a "Dealer Reproduction" Pace Car, has the correct fleet designation code on the cowl tag.
The car is for sale locally so I do reserve the right to end the auction early. $1500 deposit is due within 24 hours of auction close. I may consider a partial trade for a vintage RV/trailer or another vehicle. Thanks for looking and please contact me with any and all questions!
