1964 Chevrolet Corvair Spyder 60431 Miles Coupe 164 ci Turbo 180 HP 4 Speed Ma
Description
Stk. 2251 1964 Corvair Spyder The first-generation 1960 Corvair was one of the most unique cars that GM had ever put into production and it didn't take them long to start working on a performance model. In 1962 they offered the Spyder - a turbocharged Monza. Once again the Corvair was a trendsetter - one of GM's first production turbo models. This burgundy '64 Spyder is a great example of the last Gen1 Corvair. The flat-six engine received a displacement increase to 164ci in '64 and the turbocharged Spyder employed an intake system designed around a Thompson-Ramo turbocharger and Carter YH side-draft carburetor. The result was 150bhp @4400 210lb/ft of torque and surprising performance. Spyders were equipped with 4-speed manual transaxles allowing the driver to take full advantage of the motor's high RPM performance band. This particular fully restored Spyder has earned some serious mechanical upgrades. The flat-six received new life with components from Clarkes Corvair Shelborne Falls MA. Enhancements included: turbo kit fuel pump electronic ignition fuel tank turbo muffler and battery. The suspension received a front disc-brake conversion new brake lines 5-lug hubs (w/'85 Monte Carlo 14" wheels) and new radials tires. The exterior was stripped to bare metal and re-shot in Burgundy while the interior was restored in black vinyl. It sports the factory Spyder 'turned metal' instrument cluster and a new headliner. This collectible Corvair Spyder is an affordable piece of GM history. A true BowTie lover should have one in their garage. Call 704-550-2027 or visit our website at for additional information.
