Description

I don't want to sell my truck. It is too fun to drive, and in spite of being an unfinished project, it gets lots of attention/interest when I do drive it. The straight lines of the '86 cab, (deluxe front appearance), lowered with the step side short bed creates a uniquely "cool" look. It starts right up and sounds awesome, in no small part due to the full three inch dual exhaust (chromed).
This truck has a great highway gear and plenty of power to cruise 80 MPH all day long. I rarely drive it in town but have made several trips to the Rockies with it. I have certainly appreciated the auxiliary fuel tank on those trips.
With less than 40,000 miles since the engine was rebuilt and modified, my truck is mechanically very sound. When I was preparing to haul a VW bus from Lawrence, Ks. to Denver, Co. I left my pick up with a prestigious mechanic in Denver, (Jim has built race trucks for over 30 years in addition to rebuilding and creating modifications to high end rare vehicles. He also is editor of a racing magazine published out of Denver) less than 5,000 miles ago to ensure that everything from top to bottom and bumper to bumper was in good working order. Although Jim's expertise doesn't come cheap, I knew I could trust him to assess and make any needed repairs, which he completed.
I am relying on his assessment in terms of pricing my pick up as well. He told me he had only been able to modify a step side like my truck twice in his life. We talked about making the short bed even shorter and putting large tires on the back etc.
The interior is in very good condition. The bench seat is burgundy, (original), but the dash has been replaced, (grey), and grey carpet has been added. In addition, a Grant steering wheel replaced the original one and a CD player/radio replaced the original radio.
I replaced the front panel on the drivers side, and I planned to replace a back panel, as well as the steps on each side, and then have it painted.
In the past two months I have replaced both of the muffler pipes, put in a new wing window on the drivers side, replaced the steering wheel, and put in a new metal radiator.
The glass and rubber are now in very good shape. It comes with a sliding rear window.
My pick up came from the factory with the following:
Heavy duty rear springs
front stabilizer bar
4 speed automatic
tilt steering wheel
rally wheels
windshield antenna
tinted glass-all windows
air conditioning
power brakes
power steering
step side body
heavy duty battery
deluxe front appearance, ( both bumpers are chromed also)
In order to fully appreciate this truck I would encourage looking at and driving it.
It could be daily driver, but it has the potential to be a very valuable and appealing show truck.
I would love to see it finished out. I wish I were the one to do it, but circumstances dictate that I sell.
