1969 Chevy C20 3/4 Ton Truck
Description
Up for sale is my 1969 Chevy C-20 3/4 ton truck. It has 11,123 miles since the frame off resto-mod and installation of the 502HO crate engine. I've driven it regularly. It looks, sounds and runs great. I love this truck but I have another and I want to pay off a credit card and buy something more practical for long trips. If it ran on compliments it would be the perfect vehicle. You're absolutely welcome to come have a look at it. I'm going to list all the quirks and flaws I can think of now. Like me it's almost 50 years old so, we all have them. It loves gas, the tank is mounted in the cab and isn't all that large. Relocating a larger tank maybe sidesaddle would be great. It's slow to warm up. Let it idle a couple minutes before you take off and once you do let the transmission warm up before you get down hard on it or it will slip. I say slip but that isn't really correct it's more like it goes into overdrive after missing a couple gears. But this won't happen when driven normally or if you decide to stomp on it after its been driven a couple miles. I have purchased a new rotor for the distributor but not installed it yet. A couple weeks ago it occasionally would not crank until I popped the cap off the distributor and gave the rotor a flick. I bought the rotor but its hasn't happened since. I haven't figured that out yet but if it happens again before you buy it the new rotor will be on and if it doesn't you'll get it with the truck. I purchased the distributor itself new from GM about 2 years ago. The not-factory air conditioning doesn't work and has not since I bought the truck. I roll down the windows. It's not been high on the to do list. The compressor clutch engages but there's bubbling in the sight glass and no cold air. I've been told this indicates low refrigerant. The truck has manual steering and power brakes with front disks. I'm used to the manual steering but my girlfriend won't drive it because of that. That could be good or bad. It had a th350 trans and a 2 piece driveshaft when I bought it. The 700R4 is much nicer for highway driving and the new driveshaft eliminated a vibration problem it had at speed. I've been reading about wiring a lockup converter pressure switch but haven't done that. You'd gain a couple miles per gallon on the highway I think. The interior felt on the driver's door window is kicking up slightly when you roll the window completely up. It's a very minor nuisance to tuck it back in when you've rolled the window down. I've put a couple nicks in the paint on top of the tailgate with some ramps I use. Also best dog is not included at any price.
Now I want to say a couple more nice things about it. It really is a good looking truck. The paint is great. Folks like to look at it and I get thumbs up on the road or small talk at the gas pump all the time. It will haul 1500lbs like it's nothing. That solar farm in the background of some of the photos used to be a junkyard. The credit card debt I want to pay off accumulated while I was cleaning that land in anticipation of getting the solar farm in there. This truck has hauled many thousands of pounds of metal and other things for me. It's a big, beautiful beast.
I also have a 70 Chevy 1ton Open-Road RV that I've been using as donor vehicle for parts. It has a sidesaddle tank, some nice bucket seats, original instrumentation a th400 and a decent old 170hp small block 350. Winning bidder please let me know if you're interested.
Thanks and good luck bidding.
