1959 Corvette Big Brake Super Stock Tribute
Description
Here's a very nice 1959 Corvette. This car was built in an early 1960's period Super Stock or street brawler style. It is non matching numbers, it was bought as a barn find missing the motor and transmission.
I found this car in Fresno CA, it had been parked inside a garage from approximately 1972 until 2016. I purchased it as shown the photos with the intention of building it as a keeper. As such, I spared no expense and spent a year to get it to this point. As with all true cars guys, I've stumbled across a new project and now this one has to go.
This Corvette has been body on restored, but you really have to know where to look to tell it wasn't body off. Everything is new or restored and that includes the suspension, brakes, all plumbing, the wiring, everything. The motor is a 1958 Power Pack 283 that's had a ring and bearing rebuild. it has a custom ground hydraulic camshaft that has a Duntov 30-30 sound without the clatter. It has a factory cast iron four barrel intake with the correct Rochester 4 Jet. The distributor is a period correct Mallory Double Life that been fitted with a Pertronix electronic conversion. The transmission is a custom built T5 with S10 gearing and a Mustang tailshaft to put the shifter in just the right spot.
A ton of time was spent on paint and bodywork, we did everything in house. There were repairs made years ago to the passenger side door and fender, we fixed them all. The car was primed and blocked four times before shooting everything in PPG DCC9300. This is a single stage enamel that is the blackest material available and lasts decades. The results speak for themselves, see the photos. All the original trim was polished or plated, its beautiful. Wheels are new from Wheelsmith and the tires are Firestone 6.70-15's up front and 9.00-15 cheater slicks from Towel City Racing out back. I have a set of 1959 dog dish hubcaps that go with the car, not sure if I like the car better with or without them.
There are a number of small details that are not correct. For example, the generator is on the wrong side, the dash end caps are 1960-62, the tachometer is from a 62, the fan is wrong, etc. If these things bother you then this is not the car for you. I built the car as a heater delete and radio delete vehicle, but the heater assembly and radio are included in the sale. I also have a number of small parts which are not installed but are included in the sale.
The car is being sold as is, it needs the rest of the interior completed. It also needs the hardtop brought up to the level of the rest of the car. The plexiglass needs polished and the weatherstripping needs to be replaced. We can complete this work in house for $7,000 on a 21 day timeline.
This is a running, driving and licensed car that has about 100 test miles on it. All the lights work, and it's roadworthy as as. It would take approx $85K to build this car to this level at our shop, and about one year's worth of time. If you are looking for a very nice C1 Corvette that you can get in and enjoy tomorrow, don't even think about it. Just write the check and be done. Any questions feel free to call us at 626-804-3780.
