Description

Vintage trucks are hot right now, but there's just one problem: they're typically slow. But the fella who updated this pretty 1949 Chevrolet 3100 pickup took care of that for you with an upgraded five-speed manual transmission. You'll also spot some other speedy upgrades, too, but this desirable post war truck still hasn't lost his original charm. It is hard not to get drawn in by an interesting pickup like this one. Refinished in traditional bright red, this oldtimer looks highly authentic with an added dose of attitude. The Advance Design trucks are an enduring icon because they are the first new-style post-war pickups to hit the market. With car-like hood and fenders, they have an instant attraction that comes from spending real time in GM's legendary design studio. This one has a level of quality that tells you someone invested some time and money into erasing its decades as a workhorse. The panels align nicely, the doors shut with authority, and the real wood in the truck bed is rich and glossy. But what really sets this pickup apart is the five-bar grille shining like a mirror. Really, it does. Stand close enough to it, and it feel like you're at a funhouse.Open the door, and you can instantly see a major upgrade. Gone is the single bench, and in its place is the comfort of far superior buckets. The black vinyl on these seats and the red dashboard establish the two main colors used throughout the interior. This one strikes a nice balance between the classic pickup Amaricana feeling, and a cool custom attitude. So you still get the original steel dash with the original gauge package. But you take control utilizing the more modern Chevy steering wheel, barefoot gas pedal, aftermarket tachometer, and the floor-mounted shifter with plenty of extra gears.Under the hood is a 235 cubic-inch inline six. It's an upgrade in displacement over what was available in '49 without losing the iconic Stovebolt attitude. More importantly, it has earned a reputation for being tough and reliable as an anvil. While this is not an all-out speed machine, it has been given some nice upgrades to give it pep. This includes the classic Fenton exhaust manifolds that create a true dual exhaust. Plus, the Cherry Bomb mufflers in each pipe add a nice hint of bass. But what will really make you happy is the five sped manual transmission. It gives this tough truck a much better defined powerband that will get up better from stoplights AND make highway speeds manageable. Plus, radial tires on those cool rally wheels make this unique driver quite comfortable, too.Look around, but you probably won't find many trucks as unique as this one, and distinction is the cornerstone for both fun and value.
