1970 ½ Camaro Rally Sport
This car is almost 100% original, having never been modified or turned into a hot rod. This is an incredible base for a restoration to factory spec.
350CI V8 Engine, 2 barrel Rochester Carburetor, Turbo Hydra-Matic Transmission, ~67,000 original miles, power steering with tilt, power brakes, interior wood grain accents, custom-selected upholstery, A/C (not currently working, never updated to new standards), the beloved floor console shift lever. Originally Cranberry Red with White vinyl top.
3rd Owner. First was a TV personality in Birmingham, MI who bought it for his wife, second was my uncle since about 1973 before he passed it on to me in 1999. I have the following original documents: 1. Protect-O- Plate still attached to the new vehicle warranty and owner protection plan pamphlet. 2. pre-delivery service and adjustment check sheet signed by R.D. Lund, the general sales manager from the dealership in Detroit, MI; and 3. the original owner’s manual!
Engine runs great, throttle cable a bit sticky sometimes, easy fix. Has a transmission leak when full, never had a chance to fix it. Replaced radiator, master cylinder, power booster, new plugs, wires, tires, oil change and tune-up. I have 3 of the original hubcaps as well as the original radio. Due to its original nature and rarity at this point in its life, some body work and a decent paint job could likely triple its value. I drive it as is because I love it and put on about 20-30 miles per year! This car was my dream project since I used to ride in it as a small child, but time is scarce and I believe someone else will be able to enjoy it more than I can.
According to the below Camaro VIN instructions, the car is a V8, a 1970, produced in Norwood, OH, the 3,059th Camaro built at that plant that year.
1970 Camaro VIN description:
Vehicle Identification Number Example: 124870N500000
Third Digit Engine: 3 for 6 cylinder, 4 for V8
Sixth Digit Year: 0=1970, 1=1971
Seventh Digit Production Plant: N=Norwood,Ohio, L=Van Nuys
Last Six Digits increase by one with each car built at each plant started at 500000
According to The Genuine Camaro White Book:
Total Camaro Production in 1970: 124,901, Total Rally Sport packages: 27,136, representing less than 22% of all 1970 Camaros. Rarity of this car is due to the low number of options highlighted below. Keep in mind, the Regular Production Options (RPO) numbers referenced are for ALL Camaros from 1970. The number is greatly reduced in the RS package! For example, if percentages were equal, if 3,532 of all vehicles had special wheel covers, then this RS would be one of only 777 vehicles produced with those covers!
