Description

A custom truck - particularly a custom vintage truck - is a sort of blank canvas. Sure, it's already going to carry plenty of history to draw from as inspiration, just by virtue of its venerable age, but execution plays a huge part in determining just how special the finished product is. What to include. What to leave out. A great combination of thoughtfully selected and applied features, combined with aesthetic creativity and even a measure of restraint, make this 1949 Chevrolet 3100 3 window a custom truck masterpiece.
The indigo blue exterior gives the first indication of just how much sheer curb appeal this truck has. No flames or other accents are needed - it's a great color that not only induces stares, but also complements the lines of this classic very nicely. And it's quite a collection of lines at that: from the deep, rugged-looking front end that looks even more by so by virtue of the chopped top sitting above it, the flowing front and rear fenders, to the rolling curvature at the top of its bed and the running boards gracing its sides. The generously-sized Chevy grille ornamenting the front creates a striking contrast of chrome against the electricity of the blue background, a theme amplified by the sterling condition of it as well as its bumpers, side mirrors and badging. From the back, crisp "Chevrolet" lettering ornaments the center of the liftgate and sits next to more lettering identifying this truck's year, with the small, distinctive rear window of the cab presiding above and a diamond-pattern steel bed liner inside. Clearly, a lot of detail work went into creating a look for this custom that draws you in right away.
The interior has a great, finished look as well. The black and royal blue vinyl bucket seats are complemented by door panels mirroring their color combination and set off by the blackness of the carpeting and matching headliner. All seem to exude newness - unwrinkled and unscuffed. The factory gauges have been replaced by a set of creatively installed aftermarket counterparts residing in the original circular enclosures of the stock dash. All gauges are in proper working order, as are the power electric windows. The dash itself reflects careful restoration, with its matching blue paint accented by chrome throughout. In its center sits a retro-looking AM/FM stereo, powering a speaker enclosure sitting just behind the seats. Below the dash, an aftermarket A/C system pumps with vigor through registers that blend in well with their surroundings. The tilt-column has been painted in the same royal blue shade - a nice finishing touch.
The attention to detail doesn't stop with this truck's aesthetics and the intention to create a custom truck that's also a blast to drive is obvious. A 350 V8 sits under the hood, connected to a 3-speed transmission and topped by a 4 barrel carb sitting beneath a chrome Edelbrock air cleaner. Reflecting the adage that "a house is only as good as its foundation" holds true for custom trucks, as well, this 3100's Nova/Camaro subframe adds a level of rigidity and sturdiness that far exceeds the original configuration. Power steering and brakes with discs up front do the same for its drivability. A set of 15" American Racing wheels are the perfect accent to the exterior and are wrapped in a set of Goodyear tires with plenty of rubber on them.
