Marina Blue w/Blue interior, L79 327/350hp, 4-spd manual transmission. The second-generation Chevy II or Nova was introduced in ’66 with a complete body redesign. It featured a sharp-edge style based in part on the Super Nova concept car. It was a bit more “creased” then the 1st generation car and was a big hit with the buying public. Especially the top of the line SS. The SS was available with any engine in the line except the 4-cyl and was visually distinguished with wide rocker ...panels, and a bright aluminum deck lid cove. Of course, if you were going to step up to the SS THE hot set-up was the high performance L79 option. That got you the increased hp 327ci small block with 350hp and a close ratio 4-speed manual transmission. Because of the cars excellent power to weight ratio, they became a strong and successful presence at the drag strip back then and for many years to come! Because of this . . . and the ravages of time, many of these cars didn’t survive the decades. And the ones that did seldom retained their original drivetrain when all was said and done. There were exceptions however, which leads us to our featured car . . .Completely restored and beautifully maintained, this rare ’66 Nova SS is a 3-owner car purchased new in Nashville, TN. While most L79 Nova’s were taken from the dealer showroom directly to the track, this stunning example was fortunate enough to have escaped that fate. It was kept in it’s original, untouched state its whole life. This includes not only the original (stated by the owner) drivetrain (including the M21 close ratio transmission), but even the original intake and exhaust manifolds, carburetor, air cleaner, valve covers, and shifter have miraculously survived and are still in place on the car! The fact that these items tend to get lost or misplaced makes it even more unusual! The engine, transmission and 3.73 Posi rear end have all been rebuilt to factory spec’s. The body features all original sheet metal and all exterior trim, glass and bumpers are all factory original! The factory Marina blue exterior has been expertly applied and looks two feet deep! It’s finished with rally wheels wrapped in red line radial tires for a sportier look over the stock factory wheel covers (which are in excellent condition and included in the sale!). Other options include tinted glass and factory am radio. Documentation includes a copy of the original Dealer Invoice. The car has prior celebrity ownership having formally resided in the collection of country music superstar Alan Jackson’s garage. The correct L79’s are coveted by muscle car collectors worldwide and we don’t think there’s a finer example on the market! And in viewing the car, we’re sure you’ll agree.
