1968 CAMARO READY FOR RESTORATION

1968 CAMARO....The history of this car....I purchased from a guy that sold his wife's car for money they needed...unfortunately for her but fortunately for me...back in the 80's ? 1983 maybe?
Car has been sandblasted to bare metal and slightly primedpictures show before paint removal and after.Only damage is to the rear quarter passenger A van hit me in a parking lotBasically a rust free car...She has some imperfections and some pitting in the trunkShe has a tired 283 motor...but always ran 60 lbs. of pressureI can almost bet put in fresh gas and a battery and she will fire upI believe it is a 1966 engine that replaced a 327 in her way back whenWhich wasn't uncommonI had those issues is it a 302 or a 283 when buying parts for her...4 speed transmission (don't ask me the kind)Her linkage sticks if not shifted properly from reverse to 2nd then up to 1stShe was my daily driver for 20 yearsShe has all glass but windshield needs replacedShe has her visors rear view mirror and some small things yetI did new weather stripping a number of years agoI have owned her for 35 years.I have misplaced the title so how ever you want to handle thisI will let that be your choice Bill of Sale or get a Duplicate or just put directly in your name I will do everything necessary to not have any problems...I am the only owner for 35 years...but the title is purged to both MN and AZ and I just didn't handle this issue, since she is mine...I didn't see the need...!
She wants to be the sweet car like she was at one time.I have not done much with her over the years....She has never left me stranded not ever!She is a champ of all - in my books...my babe!I took her to MN when I went to college Bought a 4x4 and parked her till all salt was goneI had a rust free car and didn't want to damage that with cancer holes..She always started right up after winter months!She never popped out of gear except coming out of the heated garage one year in MNShe not only popped gear, she turned her wheels, Then rolled right to the brand new truck Taking her place in the garageShe has a mind of her own so I named her Christine.She is a woman with an attitude on wheels...love her or leave her alone!
I quit driving her because of the linkage getting stuckI was tired of crawling under her to unstick the linkageBeing back in the AZ hot summers...I opted for a car with air conditioningHer back seat was redone one timeShe needs new interiorShe does not have a grill or turn signals that go in the grill.She does have 2 hoods that comes with her.
I am selling her for the simple reason I need legal fees to help a combat veteran get out of a nursing home and his family wants otherwise...His freedom of choice should be the utmost importance and I hope to obtain that for him.He doesn't want to be there! Him and I have been together for 20 years.Not married I need legal fees to change things around

Decoding 1968 Chevy Camaro Trim Tag

The trim tag is riveted to the firewall above the master cylinder. The information below is as complete and as accurate as possible. Something that seems to be confusing people is what on the trim tag should match the VIN? The body number (by the BODY) or what we have labeled below as location E does not have to match the VIN in any way. It should go without saying that you will be unable to get the last six digits of the VIN from the trim tag. Please check out our FAQ on alternate first gen Camaro VIN locations. Also the first 5 digits identifying the body style and engine are not truly identified on the trim tag please see the note for location C. The assembly plant code must always match.

**Los Angeles cars had a code on the first line, such as K212. It is believed to be an internal plant code for dating of production.

Location B - Model Year 1968

Location C - Body Style

12437 - Sport Coupe 12467 - Convertible NOTE: The 3rd digit is always a "4" on the trim tag and does not denote a V8 or 6 cylinder so for that reason it can differ from the VIN on '68 Camaros.

Note: In 1968 the third digit of the body style did not denote a six or eight cylinder engine. Only the third digit of the VIN indicated the engine in 1968. All cars will show one of these two codes regardless of the engine.

NOR- Norwood (Cincinnati) Ohio LOS - Van Nuys (Los Angeles) California

Location E - Body Number

A number assigned by Fisher Body, no relation to the VIN.
Note: This is not what some call the "serial number" or more specifically the last six digits (or any part) of the VIN. If they match it is only by chance as more times than not the body number will not match any part of the VIN at all. During the 1968 production run this body number was more sequential than not.

First Generation Chevy Camaro VIN Decode

Not much can be decoded from a 1967, 1968 or 1969 Chevy Camaro VIN. You can only determine the type of engine either 6 cylinder or V8, the year and the plant produced. You can not determine the exact engine installed in a first generation Chevy Camaro by the VIN. The 1967 Chevy Camaro was the only model to have the vehicle identification number (VIN) tag mounted to the door hinge pillar. VIN tags on later models are visible through the drivers side windshield. (See below for links to other years)

FACT: There is absolutely NO engine information contained in a Camaro VIN until 1972.
