1967 Stingray convertible corvette

Description

The subject vehicle is a resto-mod 1967 Corvette. This vehicle is claimed to be a two-owner vehicle, with the second owner owning the car over 4 decades. This very early production Corvette was originally finished in code 977 Lynndale Blue with black vinyl interior. The vehicle has been customized with period paintwork and modifications.

Engine is a 454 GM crate engine; casting #12550313. Block casting date KH6. Holley dual feed 4 barrel with electronic choke on a GM medium rise aluminum intake. MSD electronic ignition. Stock cast-iron exhaust manifolds. Custom aluminum radiator with custom expansion tank. Billet engine pulleys with supertine belt drive conversion. Dual master cylinder with no power brakes or steering. Transmission is a Muncie M20 4 speed with a matching VIN stamping; gearbox casting 3885010; correct for '67. ENGINE COMPARTMENT CONDITION- #3 VERY GOOD

Frame appears in largely original, unrestored condition. No major patches or repairs observed. There is one small hole in each of the rear outer boxed frame rails on either side of the vehicle. Frame shows mild surface corrosion throughout. Fiberglass floor tubs show no notable cracks or damage. Vehicle was originally equipped with full exhaust, has been converted with reproduction side pipes. Newer BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires fitted; 275/60 R15 rear and 235/60 R15 front. Aftermarket slotted aluminum wheels which show moderate wear and patina observed. New front suspension parts include upgraded front sway bar with link bushings and recently replace upper and lower a-arm bushings. Rear leaf-spring bushings have been replaced. Lower control arms have been switched to tubular adjustable units. Evidence of flexible rubber brake line replacement and newer outer tie-rod ends as well. Only minor surface scale was observed on the visible parts of the bird-cage; no notable rot observed at the base of the lower windshield mount under the dash. UNDERBODY CONDITION- #3+VERY GOOD

Seats have been restored; with newer covers and correct rear seat-back ventilators. Carpeting has been replaced with an incorrect texture carpet kit; floor mats are correct loop-pile style carpet. Door panels have been replaced and show in good overall condition with no notable damage observed. Heater core hoses are connected; however the heater blower motor in in-op. Original Delco AM/FM radio is inop. Clock is in-op. Dash shows in good overall condition with wear and patina in keeping with the age and mileage of the vehicle. Wear around ignition switch indicates this car has likely turned the odometer over. Wood rim steering wheel shows no cracks or damage. Horn button appears new. Door jambs have been pin-striped in red. Parking brake cover and shifter

console are un-restored. Hardtop headliner has a custom stitched pattern. Power windows are operating properly. 6500 RPM redline tach indicates this vehicle may have originally been a 435hp engine. 390 and 400hp cars were given 6000 RPM redline tachs. Although there is some disagreement in the Corvette community, as documented variations on oil pressure gauges exist, according to the NCRS; 390-400hp cars originally came with a 60 pound oil pressure gauge; 435 hp cars came with a 80 pound oil pressure gauge. This vehicle has an 80 pound gauge. INTERIOR CONDITION- #3- VERY GOOD

Finish shows in average overall condition, with several surface defects observed in a variety of places. Panel gap and fitment of the hood, doors and convertible top cover are all acceptable, with fitment that is even and consistent throughout. Vehicle has had a custom fiberglass nose grafted on with custom turn signals, grill insert and front bumper delete. The rear exhaust holes on the lower rear valance have been filled as re-pop side pipes have been installed. Front bonding strips have been lost due to custom fender flares. Rear bonding strips are still intact; rear fender flares installed below bonding strips. A small ripple in the driver rear quarter panel was observed. A large scratch was observed on the passenger rear corner of the rear deck-lid. Both the driver side door glass and 1/4 vent glass pre-date assembly of the vehicle by an appropriate range (GA and TA codes; April and August, 1966). Passenger 1/4 vent window is an aftermarket PPG replacement. Windshield and passenger door glass are correct LOF marked; dated Sept, 1973. No cracks or notable damage observed in the glass. Retractable headlights do not rotate all the way open. Optional and desirable hardtop installed with no notable damage observed on the rear Plexiglass window. All weather seals on the vehicle show moderate cracking and deterioration. EXTERIOR CONDITION #3- VERY GOOD overall condition.

Also included with the vehicle is another complete 454 engine block, heads, intake manifold and period tri- power carb setup. Engine condition unknown. Carbs appear complete, but will likely need complete rebuilding. Engine suffix and other identifiers on the stamp pad have been removed, impossible to know previous application. Engine casting number is 3999289, which denotes a 1972-78 454ci with 2 bolt main; originally producing 215-270 hp. The heads are GM high-performance, with castings of 3964291 (cast Apr, '70) and 38738589 (cast May, 1966). Tri-power carbs on a period Winters aluminum intake, with 3894374 casting. Outer two carbs were produced June, '67, and the middle carb was produced Feb., '67.

After reviewing all areas of the vehicle, I would rate this vehicle in a "#3 VERY GOOD" condition.

Appraisal Methodology:

In order to arrive at fair market value for this 1967 Corvette, three resources were used; data from private and public conventional pricing guides, a search and analysis of comparable big block 1967 Corvettes was conducted, as well as a search for comparable big block 1967 Corvettes currently listed for sale. The market insights derived form this data, along with the appraisers observations of the attributes of the subject vehicle as compared to the comparable samples is then used to arrive at an estimated FMV for the vehicle by comparing the rarity, desirability, and condition of this 1967 Corvette to similar vehicles.

Finished in red over black interior. Custom Hooker headers, high-performance rectangular port heads and high lift roller cam. 4-speed manual transmission and posi-traction rear end. 17" Halibrand-style wheels and a lowered F41 suspension. Chrome side pipes and new black soft- top. Black leather bucket seats, power steering, power brakes and a custom sound system. Sold at Scottsdale 2014 for $66,000.

Vehicle 3: Offered at Mecum: Lot S83, No VIN listed. 1967 Corvette Roadster. Green over green with white top. Rotisserie restoration completed in 2011. Built 427 motor with Keisler 5-speed transmission. Edelbrock heads and intake, MSD ignition. Corvette brakes with a-arms tubular arms on front. American Racing salt flat wheels. Mild fender flares at the rear. Vehicle sold at Mecum Kansas City for $55,000.

Power steering, power disc brakes. 427ci/435hp engine replaced with 468ci big block and date coded Tri-Power setup. 4 Speed Muncie M-21 Transmission. Factory bolt-on wheels with Redline tires. New brakes. New seat covers, carpeting and door panels. Clean frame and floorboards with excellent end caps, birdcage and rails. Offered for sale: $57,500.

Vehicle Valuation

After considering all the pricing information contained in this report, and taking into consideration several points, including:

•The overall condition of the subject vehicle, which I would rate in #3 condition. There are operational items that need to be addressed, including various interior features (and retractable headlights) that need to be repaired.
•The equipment this vehicle carries as compared to other comparable custom '67 big block Corvettes sold or available for purchase. Original hardtops are desirable, as are power windows.

•The finish on this vehicle is and older re-spray and is showing its age.
•A 20% reduction of published "book" values due to un-original power train.
•A 10% reduction of published "book values due to the fact this Corvette has undergone a color change from its original color.
I estimate the Fair Market Value of this 1967 Corvette to be $53,500. (This amount does not include the value of the additional engine). Additional estimated value of the engine and parts is $4,200
