Are you considering building a restomod Chevelle or maybe an SS396 clone? Here’s an opportunity to put your imagination to work. This may be the perfect body and chassis for your project as the body, paint and undercarriage landscape is complete. We all know the absolute hardest part on any build to get right is the chassis, paint and body. I can unequivocally state the paint and body is done and simply magnificent. It’s time to wire it up, strap in your choice of motor, trans and interior and off you go with the prettiest two-year only Chevelle body ever produced.

I have been around classic muscle cars and Corvettes for over 40 years building and judging at some of the finest shows in Southern CA. I have seen many incredible projects and some not so nice finished projects, and a lot of that is determined by the level of craftsmanship on the chassis, body and paint finish.

This canvas is commensurate with a concour level presentation. The body and paint are mostly original GM metal except for the hood, trunk floor, dash and rear quarters which all come from Original Parts Group and fit like a glove. The owner of a very high-end shop in Southern CA bought this project from a customer who was in the middle of this extensive ground-up restoration when the money dried up. The shop owner took over the project and wants to sell it at its current stage of build.

Everything was completely stripped out of the car and blasted to its core. The body and paint work are the results of hundreds of hours of work by some of the best craftsman in Southern California. Old school guys who know what they are doing put this 2-door coupe back together. There are well over $30K worth of receipts that come with the build, not including the original car.

The body was very complete and relatively rust free. The decision was made to make this car as close to brand new as humanly possible, so any suspicion of rust was discarded for new metal in trunk and rear quarters. The typical windshield leak areas took out part of the dash and a whole new one was purchased and replaced. The hood was scraped for a brand new one as well. Two original steel front fenders were sourced at over $1000 and then stripped and powder coated. The goal was no body filler anywhere to the body of this car.

Looking closely at the body pictures from every angle you will notice the attention to detail and fitment from panel to panel, shut line to shut line. That’s right, the shut lines are within microns of each other. Down the side views you will notice how nicely the doors meet at top, bottom and side to side. This is the kind of body panel fit that a lot of money buys.

The owner of the shop is a perfectionist to say the least and he was proceeding with this build for himself but other projects have taken precedence so this little beauty needs to find a new owner to finish her up.

The paint is fresh and as close to perfect as you are going to find. The color is Tripoli Turquoise Metallic, the original color the car was born with. Sam bought a state-of-the-art high-dollar heated downdraft booth about two years ago, resulting in totally amazing paint finishes right out of the booth. But he wanted to take it one step further to a mirror like “flat” finish. Thanks to a hundred hours of color sanding and polishing by some of the best in the business I can say this is a concour paint job. A paint remake like this one would start at $20K today in a high-end shop like Sam’s.

Over $2000 was spent on paint materials, as Sam only paints with the best.

Take a look at the undercarriage and all the brand spanking new CPP suspension parts, everything was either powder coated or painted. New brake linings are all mounted and ready to go.

This was a very complete Fremont, CA built car and always in California. The car comes with the CA Blue Plates that came with the car probably from the early 70’s, when some new owner registered it.

Please realize what it would cost to find a decent donor car, media blast it, repair and totally repaint a car to this level of restoration. This is the most important piece to a restoration. There is ZERO bondo in this car anywhere. This is all pristine original or replacement panels from Original Parts Group.

If you are in Southern CA, the car is currently at Sam’s Shop in San Juan Capistrano and is readily available for inspection with appointment.
