VIN # 1Z37L6S443286This was the 43,286th Corvette built in 1976 out of 46,558 total produced that year.Actual Build date of this Corvette was Wednesday July 21st, 1976. (Late Built Car)
This was the last year to see the "Stingray" badging on a Corvette as 77 models had the cross flag emblems.
Only 3,389 Yellow Corvettes were built in 1976.
The engine is original to the car "Matching Numbers"
This 1976 Corvette is a great entry level starter Corvette for someone that wants an original car that is driveable and presentable, but doesn'thave to spend in excess of $20,000 dollars. These models are getting harder and harder to find virtually untouched "Survivor" cars as this onehere and that is priced realistically. This Corvette is basically an untouched car with only some paint work done here and there. For the mostpart is an original paint, but does show so places that have been spotted in over the years. The overall presentation of the car is good withand excellent set of original urethane front and rear bumpers that are not cracked. Those items are usually in bad shape. Not the ones on thiscar. The hood and headlights do fit well, along with the t-tops and trim. The original dealer emblem is still on the rear bumper as shown in thephotos. The car does have some chips and nicks over the years and does show its age, but overall has a decent shine out in the sun. I personallywould drive the car and enjoy as it is, and down the road consider a nice repaint as the money invested into the car will be well worth it downthe road. You can still see the original sloppy weatherstrip adhesive that was used back in the day, but overall the door jambs paint finishis clean. The rubbers all look good except for the t-tops which I would replace. You can definitely tell that the car has just not been apart ormessed with if you have been around these models. I like to see them that way as most have all been modified and ruined in my opinion. The glass is overall good with no cracks and the power windows do work. Wipers as well. Headlights do work on the car.
The interior on the Corvette is real nice for original. The seats look as new and are not. The dash pad has no wear or cracks and is in excellentcondition. You can see in the photos the original steering wheel has the nice grain like finish and no wear from your hands over the years. All of the gauges look nice and fresh with no dirt or dust behind the lenses. They do all work except for the clock. Even the air conditioningcontrols on the center console have no fading. Fit is nice on all of the panels. The door panels are real nice as well with the exception of twosmall cracks on the driver's side toward the front of the armrest, but not real bad. The passenger one is near perfect and the wood grainedaccents all look nice. The original jack and lug wrench are still intact along with both t-top storage bags. Carpeting is all original except fornew floor mats. The carpet had some fading as we tried and redyed the best we could, as we were trying to keep it as much as original as wepossibly could. If you really wanted the interior to stand as tall as the rest of it I would replace the carpeting. Just really has some age to it.The seat tracks look nice as well. Again no tears or rips on these original seats. Trim panelsand the original seat belts also are in good condition. For the price of this car you are getting a $20,000 type of car interior.
The engine bay is mostly all untouched with many of the decals and labels still intact. In fact the a/c belt still has the GM labels on it.You can still even see some inspection markings on the valve covers. Air cleaner all intact, ignition shielding still there, overalldecent and presentable and has not been repainted or touched up. This was also the last year for the orange painted engines. Also thisbeing a late production car, it has the 77 style narrow air conditioning compressor as this is correct, as the earlier 76 models had thelonger based style a/c compressor. I have only driven the car about 40 miles and does track down the road good and drives nice andtight. It does still have most of the original exhaust system including the catalytic converter, but would recommend replacing it allif I was going to drive it much. You can get a complete system real reasonable from Corvette Central. The spare tire compartment is still underneath the car including a tireand wheel that appears to be original, but the tire does show it has been used. It even has the original spare tire lock which are usuallymissing. I do have the original Firestone white lettered Steel Belted Radials that do go with the car with amazingly tread left on them. howeverone of the tires has since separated. These tires are date coded and that alone will tell you the miles are real. There is just to many signson this car that lead you to believe the miles are real. The tires that are on these Rally wheels are new and were installed in Decemberof 2017. They seem to balance out nice.
I do have some papers with the car of previous owners and title copies along with mileage showing and an odometer statement. Most of the documents I have date back to 1985. I do have an original owners manual and sales brochure as well. One set oforiginal keys.
KEY HIGHLIGHTS TO THE 1976 MODEL YEAR:The carburetor induction system was revised in 1976. Previously, air was drawn in at the rear of the hood, producing a slight howl audiblefrom within the car. The air source point was moved forward, so that air was pulled in over the radiator. The 1976 hood was unique to the year.Engineers put a partial steel underbelly in the forward section of Corvettes starting in 1976 for added rigidity, weight reduction, and to betterisolate the cockpit from heat generated by catalytic converters. Also, higher engine temperatures were intentional, one way to increaseefficiency and partially offset emissions-related power losses.Astro Ventilation was eliminated starting with 1976 models. This meant, among other things, the vents on the rear deck (just aft of the backwindow) were deleted.A new "sport" steering wheel for 1976 Corvettes was introduced. Some late-production 1976 Corvettes were built with parts normally associated with 1977 models, especially interior components and suchthings as the air conditioning compressor, like this one has.Two styles of rear bumpers were used. The first had smaller, recessed "Corvette' letters. The second had larger letters, not recessed. This was the last year to see the "Stingray" badging on both front side fenders. This was also the last full year to see the orange paintedengines. The Deluxe Leather Interior options as this one has, includes leather seat trim, wood-grain accents and lower carpet trim on inner door panels,wood-grain accents on the center console, and special cut-pile carpeting.Listed as separate options initially, Power Brakes (J50) and Power Steering (N41) were included in an increased base price during 1976. All 1976Corvettes had Power Brakes; all but 173 had Power Steering.Other standard features include 160-MPH speedometer, 7000-rpm tachometer, Ammeter, Temperature, Fuel, and Oil pressure gauges, Seat beltand headlight indicators, Map compartment on passenger side dash, Hazard warning switch, High-Energy Ignition System, Soft-Ray tintedglass, Hide-A-Way windshield wipers, retractable headlamps, removable t-top roof panels, and the list goes on.
