Description

1958 CHEVROLET VIKING 50 COE LCF TRUCK
This is a solid old cab over chevy truck. These COE's make nice rod projects and can be fixed up in a variety of ways, restore to original, or use as-is. People put flatbeds on them or regular pickup boxes from the era. I've seen custom crew cabs built out of them and suburbans too. This truck is an LCF (low cab forward). They still have the good COE looks, but have a lot more room in the cab. The engine on an lcf isn't in the cab with you, which on standard coe trucks can get hot in the summer if you don't have ac and are a bit noiser. Other pics of custom trucks are in the listing, to give you an idea of the potential of this truck. If you build this truck on a newer suspension, many 8-lug 19.5 or larger rims are now sold that look right and fill the wheelwell properly. It does have a clear title. Here are all the details on the truck. I have more pics I can send also. I have experience shipping vehicles and can help with that process. Thanks and happy bidding.
MECHANICAL
Thistruck has what appears to be the original 283 4-barrell V8. The engine turns over nicely and easily with the starter. I have not tried to get it running though. The previous owner had tried to borrow the carburetor off of it until they saw that it was the old square bore design and different than a newer spread bore quadrajet. The carburetor is included but just bolted on with a couple bolts to keep it secure. I'm sure the engine will need some tinkering to get it running but it turns over well and has spark. The rear driveline is out but included. Transmission shifts into all gears. Parking brake works (but won't actually work until driveline is re-installed. I have not tried the regular brakes. The tires are old but usable to tool around at low speeds. The truck rolls and steers fine.
BODY
This truck is solid and a good one to start with for a restoration. The body has very little rust. It has the usual rear cab corner rust in the skin. Replacement corners are sold and it's fairly easy for a bodyman to replace them. The cab is straight for the most part but the cab has some dents in the back and above the rear window that will need to be worked out. The floors are very nice. No frame or fender rust. Inner fenders, header, firewall, floors, etc. are fine too. The doors shut as they should and windows operate. Hood opens/closes as it should. The paint has the usual patina and is not nice. I can help find an era correct box for you if your interested in building a pickup. 1955-1966 boxes look pretty much the same and they are somewhat easy to find in the 8' size. This truck would be cool as a rollback, or ramptruck too.
INTERIOR
The bench seat is gone. I can help you get a seat if you intend on using an original style bench seat, but they aren't hard to find. It's the same seat as a pickup would have. The dash area is relatively un-modified. This has the really cool gauge bezel/cluster that I believe may be the same as the 55-57 chevy cars and pickups. It looks like the floormat was taken out a long time ago, which is good. The floors are in nice shape. I've had other lcf trucks this same year and I fit fine in it it and I'm 6'5". It's just like getting in a pickup but taller.
OVERALL
This is a cool old COE project. There are more '55-'57 coe customs out there but the '58-'59 is cool looking and looks larger when your standing by it. These COE trucks get tons of attention at the car shows. Thanks and happy bidding. Sold as-is.
