1957 CHEVROLET BELAIR 4 DOOR HARDTOP (No “B” pillars)
Selling my Belair 57. Original and unmolested condition, matching numbers with the original 283 v8 engine and transmission. Still has the original generator, radiator and blower all in working conditions.
CLEAN FLORIDA TITLE IN HAND!.
BODY:
Complete and unmolested car, was repainted at some point many years ago but solid steel panels, no bondo bucket here.
No collisions, no accidents, Bumpers are in great condition showing some chrome surface patina on the lower part but no dings, damage or repairs. Same goes for the chrome and stainless steel trim, showing in very good condition with very few blemishes. Potmetal trim showing the usual chrome pitting for a 61 year old car. All trim is present.
All 4 doors, hood and trunk closing properly without any sagging or misalignment.(Missing trunk lock cylinder though). Clean engine bay with no signs of rust, same goes for the firewall. Only rust present in the car is the one appreciated in the lower corners of the doors and trunk lid which is mostly outer skins, some pinholes in the left trunk floor mostly because of water sitting on left side of the floor, some on the lower part of the roof behind the rear door (left side) and it had at some point some rust repaired on the cabin floors. Repair is solid although I would take care of the edges behind the door sills. Frame is super solid as well as the body supports and the rest of the body. Also there is an old repair done to the rear right upper shock mount which is basically part of the trunk floor, they used a piece of metal angle welded to that section of the floor to add more support instead of replacing the sheetmetal. It works perfectly as it is, goes unnoticed and probably will outlived all of us but I would just replace that section of the trunk floor and get rid of the steel angle. All panels are perfectly aligned as shown in the pictures, car has the proper stance and drives straight as an arrow.
MECHANICALLY:
Engine fires up at first crank, idles smooth and runs super strong. No smoke, no weird noises, no hesitation, no overheating, no issues. Old distributor was replaced with a new electronic distributor and car has been tuned up properly. It works perfectly and I would not hesitate to drive it anywhere. Transmission shifts as it should in all gears. Steering and brakes in properly working order and car braking straight.
INTERIOR AND ACCESSORIES:
All lights are working properly, only ones in need of reconnecting are the front turn signals (rear ones work). All windows are rolling up and down as well as vent windows rotating as they should. All door seals are present and in good condition (please note that they are not brand new). All door panels are present, however driver door panel cardboard was in bad shape so all the moldings, vinyl and hardware are there to recover a new cardboard. My upholstery guy should fix this next week : ))).
Upholstery shows in good condition, just showing a tiny long crack on the driver lower part of the bench seat. It is vinyl so I probably will change that when the driver door cardboard is replaced. Headliner is in very good condition. Carpet has seen better days for sure, is there but I would definitely replace it. All glass is present and in very good condition, windshield has the usual wiper marks and one of the door flat windows has a small crack barely noticeable.
The car has new 4 tires, all hub caps present
Things that need attention aside from obvious rust:
- -Temperature and gas gauges are not working (no overheating whatsoever)
- -Horns need to be reconnected (they are present).
- -Windshield wipers motor is there, it just needs to be bolted on again and reconnected. I bought it that way and never take it out on the rain.
- -Driver door panel cardboard was in bad condition. All vinyl, moldings and hardware is there, just need a new cardboard made and installed.
- -I would source an original radio, luckily whoever installed the stereo didn’t cut the dash trim. (I think cheap stereo is not working, I really don’t know and never cared about it LOL).
- -Reconnecting front turn signals. ( present including the harness).
- -Will need new keys made for ignition and doors. Ignition works perfectly, just it doesn't need the key to turn. Maybe a new cylinder will be a better idea since those are cheap.
I think I am covering everything, all in all a very honest car with good bones that can be driven anywhere as is, getting a ton of thumbs up and not worrying about anything, or a car that can be taken to the next leveltaking care of the mentioned issues. Most of them doable by any DIY guy with some basic tools, a welding machine, a six pack and a couple of good friends : ))).
It could also go the resto-mod route but to be honest, there are plenty of 150, 210 or 2 door and sedans in bad conditions that can be used for that instead of modifying an original unmolested 4 door hardtop.
