Description

Some pickups are just way too nice to use for work, and this beautifully-restored 1959 Chevrolet Apache is one of them. It only takes a quick glance to know this truck is no beater, and with only 818 miles since completion, it's one of the freshest restorations you'll find for sale. The quality of workmanship is ample proof that this project was done with a discerning eye and an open checkbook.
Choosing the correct exterior color is one of the most important decisions in any project. The lustrous teal finish seen here is the perfect complement to the body style of the late '50s step side Chevy short bed. Truly, it would be hard to imagine a color that accentuates these boldly classic contours any better. While it isn't museum-quality, this is a higher-end driver-grade paint job that would acquit itself well at local shows and cruise-ins. This Apache is adorned with brand new chrome bumpers and grille to give it a much more upscale look than the basic work truck version of the '59 Chevy. The wooden slats in the bed are in excellent condition, stained and cleared to a nice finish. The doors, tailgate and hood open and close quietly and easily. From bumper-to-bumper, all of the gaps in the bodywork are uniform and consistent. A nearly-new set of 225/70R15 radials on chrome Rally rims top off this little hauler's breathtaking appearance. This might be a half-ton pickup, but it easily carries two tons of eye appeal.
One of the really cool things about this restoration is the fact that there is no weak link in the entire project. The interior looks every bit as good as the outside. The metal parts of the door panels and cab are painted a soft, earthy tan that aptly contrasts the exterior finish. Meanwhile the plush original-style bench seat has been covered in rich blue-green vinyl upholstery. For convenience, a tilt column has been added, while a period-style steering wheel perpetuates that '50s look. A new factory instrument cluster has been installed, along with a modern radio made to look and fit much like the original. And in an upgrade that significantly added to its value, this Chevy was retrofitted with (R134A) air conditioning. You'll find the perfect balance of beauty and comfort within the spacious cab of this Apache pickup.
Step outside and raise the hood. You'll find an engine compartment that is spic and span, with just enough chrome to dress it up a little. Anchoring the drivetrain is the gold standard combination of a 350 small block engine and TH350 automatic transmission. That's the de facto selection for most any GM restoration, as it provides both good power and long dependability. A few enhancements like an Edelbrock carburetor and intake and HEI ignition add a little more pep to a motor that was plenty stout to begin with. Punch the gas one time, and you'll see just how responsive this engine is. She'll break the tires loose at the drop of a hat. The substantial investment in the running gear didn't stop with the engine and tranny. The stock differential has been swapped out in favor of a later model Camaro 10-bolt rear end. Meanwhile, the front suspension was upgraded with the front clip from a Nova-complete with disc brakes, coil springs, and power steering. It's a handling package that makes this Apache hit the road as straight as an arrow and hug the curves like a turnpike cruiser.
