Description

This 1966 Chevrolet Chevelle 300 Deluxe feels like a pursuit special to us. After all, a big block with a big four-barrel carburetor is something pretty hard to outrun. But look at all the details of this police car tribute, because there was a lot of time and money invested to make sure this law machine is a steal of a deal. The first thing you notice is the paint. We love black on the outlaws, but this police machine... wears it with extra dignity. Like a patrolman's uniform, it's crisp and sharp, and the gloss has as much luster as a rookie's shoes on this first day. That's because you're looking at a solid investment in creating a very cool machine. The story goes that a police car collector started out with a low mileage vehicle. That's why the panels are so straight, the trim is complete, and there's barely enough on it to average over 1,000 miles annually. He gave it a full restoration, including the upgrade to the high-gloss black. Since the whole project was completed in 2014, the Chevelle still shines like a lawman's badge. And more than just an investment in a solid car, this one has all the police features you're going to love. The red lights in the grille up front, a complementing set on the rear deck, and a CB radio antenna. The Detroit Police livery is era-correct, but they are decals in case you want to change it to a different municipality. Then again, this one has already won awards for its presentation, so it's ready to patrol the streets right now. Inside, this one retains its original-style fawn interior. The carpeting and two-tone seat covers were replaced during restoration, so no one has to be penalized for sitting in the back. In fact, since we doubt you'll be carting around any offenders, so instead it's instead a comfortable place for family and friends when it's parade time. Everything feels authentic, and all the right pieces received attention during restoration. So the steering wheel feels nice, the wide speedometer is smooth, and the turn signal leaver is crisp. Plus, the center of the dash has controls for you lights and siren. There's even a CB radio for display. When you look under the hood, the big V8 is like a glowing beacon of power within the gloss black engine bay. While everything looks like a period-correct restoration, the investments in this one also gives you some subtle upgrades. For example, the air topper might say 396 cubic-inches to be period-correct, but it's actually a larger 454ci V8. There's even a big 600 CFM Holley four-barrel carburetor on top for extra performance. That newer stainless dual exhaust really has a great growl. But this is far from just a big power machine. There are plenty of thoughtful touches. For example, the radiator might be painted black, but it's an upgraded unit to make sure the V8 runs cool. Plus, the whole package was tuned to be an excellent cruiser. This includes the stout TH400 three-speed automatic transmission and a new Positraction rear end with highway-friendly gears. Even the brakes were rebuilt during the restoration. So look over this whole package carefully, because it was built to be both clean and period-correct. This much fun shouldn't be legal.
