NOW
WHAT DO THE NUMBERS REALLY MEAN ? ?
VIN #----5FPD5047
#1------5 STANDS FOR THE KANSAS CITY ASSEMBLY PLANT
F--------STANDS FOR THE MODEL YEAR 1948
P------STANDS FOR THE SERIES 3100 or half ton
D--------STANDS FOR THE MONTH OF PRODUCTION APRIL
5047 IS THE SEQUENCIAL NUMBER AT THE ASSEMBLY PLANT
THUS; THIS 1948 HALF TON CHEVROLET WAS PRODUCED IN APRIL OF 1948 AND IT WAS THE 5047 TRUCK PRODUCED THATYEAR...
============================================================
THAT THE MOST SOUGHT AFTER OF THE EARLY CHEVROLET TRUCKS IS THE 'ADVANCED DESIGN' SERIES PRODUCED FROM 1947 THROUGH 1953..MANY PREFER THE '48 SHORTBED, 1/2 TON, AS THESE WERE THE ONLY LIGHT DUTY CHEVYS WITH THE GAS TANK MOUNTED SAFELY, OUTSIDEOF THE CAB. OURS ALSO HAS THE HIGHLY DESIRABLE 5 WINDOW CAB WITH THE DELUXE CHROME TRIM.. THESE CURVED GLASS WINDOWSWERE A STAND ALONE, $26.50 OPTION. THEY WERE CALLED 'NEW VUE' BY CHEVROLET AND DUE TO THE DOUBLE PANEL INSIDE CAB CONSTRUCTION, THEY CANNOT BE ADDED AS A POST PRODUCTION OPTION. OURS ALSO HAS THE LIGHTEST GROSS VEHICLE WEIGHT RATING OF ANY OF THE 1948 CHEVY TRUCKS.. THIS WOULD INDICATE THAT IT WAS PURCHASED AS A LIGHT DUTY HAULER AND AS SUCH, LIVED A RATHER PAMPERED LIFE..IN OUR CASE, IT WAS PROBABLY TRANSPORTING GOOSE FEATHERS TO A PILLOW FACTORY. THE WEIGHT RATING IS ONLY 4600 POUNDS AND IT HAS A CURB WEIGHT OF ONLY 3100 POUNDS.. NOW, IF WE WERE FORCED TO DO THE MATH, THAT SOUNDS LIKE A PAYLOAD OF ONLY 1500 POUNDS MINUS THE WEIGHT OF THE PASSENGERS OR ABOUT 1050 POUNDS...NOT EXACTLY HEAVY DUTY HAULING, IS IT ? ? ACCORDING TO THE IDENTIFICATION NUMBER THAT IS FOUND IN THE FRONT LEFT DOOR JAM, OUR TRUCK WAS BUILT AT THEKANSAS CITY, MISSOURI ASSEMBLY PLANT IN APRIL OF 1948.
ORIGINAL WOOD FLOOR IN STILL INTACT AND USABLE
SOOOOOOO WHAT THE HECK IS A
STOVEBOLT 6 CYLINDER ? ?
ACCORDING TO WIKIPEDIA, THESE ENGINES DERIVED THE STOVE BOLT NICKNAME WHEN THEY WERE FIRST INTRODUCED IN 1929.. THEY WERE CONSIDERED AN ENGINEERING MARVEL AND IT SURPRISED MANY TO LEARN THAT NEARLY ALL OF THE EXTERIOR ENGINE BOLTS WERE 1/4 INCH BY 20 THREAD...THESE WERE THE VERY SAME BOLTS THAT WERE USED BY MANY WOOD STOVE MANUFACTURERS OF THE TIME, THUS; 'STOVE BOLT SIX'.... AS CAN BE SEEN IN OUR VIDEO, OUR TRUCK RUNS EXCELLENT, SHIFTS THROUGH ALL OF IT'S GEARS CORRECTLY AND IT'S STEERING IS TIGHT AND TRUE.
70 YEAR OLD CHAINS WITH NEW RUBBER SILENCERS
=====================================
PLEASE CHECK THE SERIAL NUMBER
ONE OF THE PRECAUTIONS THAT SHOULD BE TAKEN BY THE OLD TRUCK BUYER IS IN REGARDS TO THE SERIAL NUMBER.. IN THE LATE 40s AND EARLY 1950s, MANY STATES FOUGHT TENACIOUSLY TO THWART THE PROLIFIC MOTOR VEHICLE THIEVES.. LEGISLATORS IN SOME STATES DETERMINED THAT THE TRUE SEIRAL NUMBER SHOULD BE THE ONE THAT WAS STAMPED ON THE ENGINE, RATHER THAN THE NUMBER THAT WAS STAMPED ON THE EASILY REMOVED DOOR PLATE. THIS WORKED OUT FINE UNTIL THE OLD ENGINE WAS REPLACED AND THE SERIAL NUMBER BECAME DISCARDED. IT WAS SENT OUT IN THE SCRAP... NOW, YEARS LATER, THIS IS BECOMING AN INCREASINGLY SERIOUS PROBLEM, WITH TITLES TRANSFERRED THAT SHOW A SERIAL NUMBER THAT DOES NOT MATCH----ANYTHING.... PLEASE NOTICE THE TWO PICTURES REGARDING OUR OFFERING.. WE HAVE ILLUSTRATED THAT OUR TITLE AND SERIAL NUMBER TAG MATCH PERFECTLY.. MANY CANNOT MAKE THIS CLAIM..
OVERALL IMPRESSIONS
AS ONE BEGINS TO LOOK FOR THE PERFECT 1947 THROUGH 1953 ADVANCED DESIGN TRUCK, IT BECOMES APPARENT THAT AFFORDABILITY MAY BECOME AN ISSUE. THE AVID EBAY WATCHER CAN ATEST THAT MANY OF THESE TRUCKS, TOTALLY RESTORED, ARE NOW BEING SOLD AT PRICES WELL OVER $35,000 AND TWO CROSSED THE BARRETT-JACKSON AUCTION BLOCK LAST JANUARY AT OVER $45,000.. WE OFFER AN ALTERNATIVE.. OUR LITTLE '48 RUNS EXCELLENT AND DRAWS A CROWD IN A MATTER OF MINUTES.. SHOULD YOU DECIDE TO RESTORE OUR TRUCK, YOU WOULD HAVE AN EXCELLENT START--OR-- YOU MAY WANT TO COMPLETE A TOTAL RESTORATION LIKE JOHNNY CASH BUILT HIS CAR---ONE PIECE AT A TIME.. BUT PLEASE UNDERSTAND, WE ARE SELLING THIS TRUCK AS A RESTORATION PROJECT... IT IS NOT A PERFECT TRUCK... IT IS NOT A RESTORED TRUCK..
RUST FREE
HISTORY INDICATES THAT THIS TRUCK SPENT ITS ENTIRE LIFE IN DRY CENTRAL NEBRASKA-----DRY -DRY- CENTRAL NEBRASKA... WE HAVE INCLUDED SEVERAL PICTURES TO ILLUSTRATE JUST HOW SOLID OUR TRUCK TRULY IS... DURING OUR QUICK INSPECTION WE DID FIND THAT HIDDEN BELOW THE WOOD, THE FRONT BED PANEL HAS RUST PERFORATIONS HOWEVER IT IS NEARLY INSIGNIFICANT AND OUT OF SIGHT.SUCH A SOLID OLD TRUCK.. MOST TRUCK ENTHUSIASTS WILL TELL YOU TO LOOK OUT FOR THE CAB CORNERS, THE FRONT DOG LESAND THE LOWER DOOR AREAS.. THESE ARE CONSIDERED TO BE THE "ACHILLES' HEEL OF THE '47 THROUGH '53 MODELS.. WE HAVE CAREFULLY INSPECTED OUR TRUCK AND HAVE FOUND THEM TO BE ABSOLUTELY RUST FREE.
100% COMPLETE
OUR '48 IS COMPLETE...100% COMPLETE... IF YOU FIND ANYTHING MISSING ON THIS TRUCK, WE WILL REPLACE IT FREE OF CHARGE AND PRE-PAY THE FREIGHT DIRECT TO YOUR DOOR (USA RESIDENTS ONLY).. IT WILL BE PROCURED FROM ONE OF THE UNITS IN OUR EXTENSIVE "OLD TRUCK" SALVAGE YARD.. WHEN WE LIST A TRUCK, WE THINK WE SHOULD REALLY SELL THE WHOLE TRUCK..
OKAY---IT'S NOT 'THE' BARN BUT 'LIKE' THE BARN INNEWMAN GROVE, NEBRASKA !

NOW IN CLINTON, MISSOURI
WHICH HAS
EASY ACCES TO EITHER COAST OR THE PORT OF HOUSTON---WE SELL WORLDWIDE ! !
NOW, JUST RELAX
AND
CHECK OUT THE TRUCK..
WE SAY "RELAX", BECAUSE MANY TIMES, AS CAUTIOUS ADULTS, WE FIND OURSELVES WORRYING MORE ABOUT THE SELLER THAN THE PRODUCT.. IS THE SELLER REALLY JUST A FEW HUNDRED MILES AWAY... OR FIVE HUNDRED MILES AWAY OR ARE THEY IN PAKISTAN, ETHOPIAOR INDIA ? ? ? THE JIM RAYSIK AUTO GROUP IS IN SMALL TOWN CLINTON, MISSOURI AND HAS BEEN FOR OVER 30 YEARS.. POPULATION 9000.. SMALL ENOUGH THAT IF YOU WOULD CALL THE LOCAL POLICE STATION, YOU'D GET A REFERENCE, A GOOD ONE. SMALL ENOUGH THAT IF YOU WERE TO CALL THE HENRY COUNTY SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT, YOU'D GET A REFERENCE, A GOOD ONE.. AND IF YOU'RE STILL WORRIED ABOUT TRICKERY, LOOK US UP ON THE NET, CALL THE NUMBER THAT'S LISTED.. WE'RE HERE/WE'RE REAL, SOOOOOOO.. PLEASE RELAX..
